What would you do if you won 5 million tax free?

What would you do if you won 5 million tax free?

I'd take 3 million and invest it.

Using the 4% rule I'd have $120,000 a year to live on.

A very good life.

Then the other 2 million, I'd give to family and friends.

I'd take at least half of the money and buy up all the rice and beans in my community and then see how long we could feed ppl that go without.

The other half would just be invested, pretty boring really.

This is the mistake that a lot of people make. They purchase an expensive home outright, only to lose it later, because they cannot afford the property taxes. If you want to purchase a home, and set aside a fund to pay the taxes for perpetuity, then you are going to have to aim much lower.

Honest answer - I would buy several houses and rent them out to people. Basically become a landlord. Maybe an apartment building too. I'd buy a decent house for myself but something worth less than $1 million.
