Netanyahu attacked an Iranian consulate, you're not supposed to attack consulates. He's getting more desperate to expand this war in order to stay in power and keep the indictments at bay.
The Iranian government had to retaliate to look tough to its citizenry and to distract away from its own horrors committed upon Iranians.
The US had enough early warning where Israel, US, UK and France were able to destroy 99% of the Iranian attack, with seemingly zero Israeli casualties. Iran probably warned them, Iran doesn't want a full scale war it can't win.
Iran actually has way more weapons than Israel, there's a reason everyone's telling them not to escalate.

Netanyahu will absolutely retaliate in some fashion. He has to maintain the tough guy image and keep the conflicts going, even if it means fighting on three fronts.
You know, if you were seriously trying to pressure Israel into not escalating, you could have warned them they'd be on their own if they did what they just did. But of course we're just gonna keep shooting down any responses from Iran, and Israel knows this so what do they care what we say?

And that's why Netanyahu does whatever he wants, there has to be consequences behind Washington's words or it won't mean anything.
