Movies By Director Frank Capra

This name may be a bit too old for most of you, and it is for me too, but the name of Frank Capra is an important icon in the history of film.

If anyone wants to talk about his movies, please feel free to join in.

One of my personal favorites is "Mr Deeds Goes to Town", starring Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur.

How about you all ???

As someone who has watched lots of B&W movies, I am
familiar with Capra.

My main problem with Capra is that he lays it on too thick
with his "ode to the common man".

He romanticizes poor people too much, while demonizing
the rich ones to the same extremes. Afterall, not all poor,
working-clas people have so "folksy" and welcoming.

The only Capra film I ever liked was "Lady for a Day" (both
because the story is great, and because of the great Warren
William), and to a lesser extent "it's a Wonderful Life" (a bit
long though).

Nice to hear from someone who is a fan of vintage cinema.

I would like to disagree with you, but your reasoning is so good that I can't.

In Mr Capra's defense though, I must point out that many of his best films were made just after the Great Depression, which was not a popular time for the rich and powerful.

It is true that films like "Mr Deeds" and "Meet John Doe" do make a big deal about the common man vs. the conglomerate, as does "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" concerning politics.

Then there is "You Can't Take It With You", which is a damned good adaption of the Broadway play, as well as an Oscar winner.

Good talking with you !!!!!
