I recently watched this film. It blew me away on many levels.
I can easily say that it was one of the most painful and heartbreaking movies I have ever watched in my life. But, in a weird way, it was also a beautiful film.
Mo'nique, in my opinion, may not have deserved the Oscar for BSA, but she did a damn good job, I have to admit. Gabourey Sidibe did nothing short of awesome in her role.
This film is painful to watch, and not just because I have first hand experience with physical child abuse but, rather, it is raw and true. This happens every day.
Anyone else seen this flick?

I'll watch this eventually, but I'm hesitant, it looks like "abuse-porn." I'm hoping there is some sort of catharsis, your recommendation gives me some hope. I'll report back once I've seen it.
I thought she deserved it. Couldn't think of somebody who deserved it more.
Anyway, great acting and its good in one of those "its so real its depressing" sort of ways. If it weren't for the performances though, it would have felt like a made for Lifetime TV movies, which again is a testament to the acting.

one of the best movies i've ever saw, very impressive the girls performance tho, i heard she skiped school one day to go audition for this movie, and she made it, you would have thought she was more experienced.
Yeah, for some reason i think i've seen this movie before. Big fat girl with heart of gold grows up in the worst part of the world. She had the potential to change the world if only given a little guidance and diet. Yet, it takes her half her life just to find a routine that is stable enough for her to enjoy life.
If any of you have seen this, please let me know if this ass hole is wrong, close or right?
