The writers/filmmakers took a sort of darkly humorous approach that is perfect, because otherwise it just would have been too fu#ked up and depressing.
Christian Bale had the best acceptance speech ever at the Golden Globes...
I just picked up the blu-ray of this movie this week. It was one of the most provocative films I saw over the winter, and it's freewheeling narrative style was a cool break from tradition. But it was also one of the most polarizing films of the Oscar season; was it all because of it's political content, or was it something more?
Yeah, I loved this movie. I've actually been meaning to watch it again, but I am having trouble bringing myself to do so because I found it somewhat disturbing. Heh, I mean, it's good that the movie approaches it with a (twisted, dark) sense of humor, though, because otherwise it would be damn-near unbearable. It's also cool how much research and how much he lived and breathed Dick Cheney to make the movie, haha. Not something I'd want to dedicate myself to personally.. haha.. but I'm glad he did.
This was actually my favorite film for Best Picture. I mean, I kind of figured it wouldn't win and was happy to have Green Book win, but this would have been such an unusual and cool winner.
Bale and Amy Adams really sold me as Dick and Lynne Cheney. Their dynamic and progress from his early days and various points in his career was portrayed really well. The movie goes out of its way to showcase how manipulative he was in the end, and how he worked behind the scenes. I was also surprised that they had an entire email server with thousands of briefings, correspondence, and potentially damning info about the Bush years gone like that. Bale even credited Satan for his performance 😂😂
10/10 movie stellar cast, Great acting’s about a dark time in recent history
