Because at the end of X2, when Stryker is strapped to the wall of his fortress, he tells Wolverine "One day, someone will continue what I have started." Just then, that little boy sticks his tounge out at Stryker. If you think about it, the Lizard eventually builds his own fortress and is the scientist who runs it, just like Stryker. . . hmm.
