Die Hard 4 Question

Somethings bothering me about Die Hard 4.

I´ll probably be shot down by some US familiar folk but nevertheless if you don´t ask you don´t get wiser.

in the Movie Bruce Willis is working in New York for the NYPD. In one scene a fake video of the white house (or some other government building, it was white anyway) being blown up was shown, Brucey and the FBI bloke run to the road to get a good view and see if the building is still there or not, it is.

The problem is, I was under the impression that the white house and other government buildings are in Washington D.C, so how could they have seen it.?

I have only seen the movie the once but I think Bruce Willis is on a special assignment and is in washington. He is all over the place is he not?
