Back To The Future 2 - Altered Future
In Back to the Future 2, there's seems to be something wrong with Docs theory of alternative Present and Future.
When Marty (Michael J. Fox) and Doc went to the Future (orig), Beef stole the car (time machine) and went back to the Past (orig). In doing so, he changed the Present(alt) and the (alt)Future. So that when Marty and Doc tried to go back to the Present (orig), they saw an Alternative Present (alt).
How is this so? If Doc's theory was right, then Beef couldn't have returned the car in the Future(orig), in the first place! He would've ended in the alternative Future(alt) instead!

I spy someone who has never watched Dr. Who...
Once you accept the (theoretical) idea that you can change history, you have to accept that WHEN you change it, the fact you did so becomes an anomaly because the sequence of events that leads up to you changing it in the first place n0 longer occur (so logically it would not happen, and things would go back to normal, and so it WOULD happen... and so on...) Time travel is a ***** and makes no logical sense but these events ARE consistent with the semi-logic of the films.
If you like, the future car ends up coming from the same 'nowhere' place that Marty himself does- after all, at the end of the first film he is living a life changed in ways he cannot remember. There are things and events and people he has no idea about! The Marty these things happened to is gone, replaced by this alternate Marty from the orginal timeline seen at the start of the film.

Dr. Who??
Hmm... I guess you're right. In the end they did correct things somehow.
But, Doc must've thought that if Beef has somehow returned the car in the future, then they must've corrected the past somehow. The only thing left is actually doing it.

nope. never got to watch it. wish i did though.
Since finti wants something explained that's not from the movie, hows this:
If in our REAL future, somebody gets to invent the time machine.. then somebody from the future should have already been here in the past. My theory is; that they're the same guys flying those UFO's and not some aliens from outer space. (Assuming they're real anyway.)
Hmmm? Think better to start another thread?

Dr. Who was the best sci-fi concept aever because you could do anything, anywhere, in any time. It covers a vast panpoly of some of the best and worst sci-fi there has ever been.

In BTTF 2, Marty sees a billboard for the Cubs winning the series (in 2015) against an unnamed Miami team. Biff has nothing to do with it, nor does he mention any World Series in the movie.
As for the alternate 2015, it WAS changed around when Biff landed. In the deleted scenes (DVD), we are shown that elderly Biff disappears shortly after his return. Just like Marty in BTTF, Biff erases his own existence by his actions in the past. The neighborhood could just have easily have changed, as it was dark and deserted by the time Biff returned, and Doc and Marty were none the wiser. Marty and Einstein were just "poking around" the neighborhood anyway, and Doc was busy hustling Jennifer back to the DeLorean when old Biff returned.
As to why neither Doc, Marty nor Jennifer were affected upon old Biff's return:
In 2015, old Marty and Jennifer live in Hilldale, but in 2015-A, old Marty is the 47-year-old version of a "snot-nosed brat" who was in a Switzerland boarding school (one of many) at age 17. We're not told what happened to Jennifer, but it's a cinch that she didn't wind up with Marty. While the rift changed the future personae of them both, it didn't affect them at age 17.
Doc and family spend their years zipping through the space-time continuum, so they may have acquired some sort of "temporal exemption" for having leapt the boundaries of space-time so often.
Works for me.
