KMC Forums - Horror Thriller Film Identification

Can you please help me identify a film that I saw on TV when I was about 8?

It has scared me ever since and I would like to see it now as an adult to dismiss it out of my mind.

I don't have a huge amount of detail but am hoping that this specialised group could help.

All that I remember is that at the end of the film a person is lying down on a sofa hidden completely under a while blanket in an almost stately home room. A person with a gun sneaks into the room and shoots the person thinking that it is someone else. Blood then starts to appear on the sheet, when it is pulled back it is the persons friend or partner that has just been shot dead and not the person expected.

The last scene of the film is a body hanged from a big tree in the garden of the same house.

That is it I'm afraid.

I will be very impressed if anyone can identify the film from this but I will be very grateful if anyone can.
