Okay, a bit of a melodramatic title. Still... gets the job done
I read an interview with PJ a few years back and he said something along the lines of "We can't keep Sauron as just a fiery eye". This was AFTER FOTR, by the way. So what gives? Why didn't we see Sauron in all his horrific glory?

yeah yeah but an eye all together.
NOwhere in the book did sauron appear physically. and if PJ had put him in then would have been going wayyyyyyyyyyyy too far with the movie/book changing plots.

No, he was not JUST an eye. He wasnt an eye after all, at least not physically - eye is just another name for him because through the Palantír, he can see everything. I rather thought of Sauron as staying inside his tower looking through the Seeing Stone... not some stupid searchlight. This was quite crazy, I mean, he was supposed to see EVERYTHING, not just some metres he was looking at... he only couldnt think of everything he saw the same time, that's why he didnt notice Frodo and Sam though he probably did see them.

ive said before the flashlight eye thing was to show that sauron was looking RIGHT at frodo, RIGHT EXACTLY ON HIM and yoiu cant just change that for one minute of a movie, big flaming eyes have a tendency of not changing
I think that PJ was talking about how they had to show Sauron in his horrific form in the prologue so everyone knows that he's just not a fiery eye.

Sauron he means that he was just saying that since the Witch King was in FotR, why not Sauron, so they put Sauron in. And since we only see the all powerful Witch King in his greatest glory in the 3rd film so yeah....

We can't see his face, because no one knows what Sauron looks like underneath armor.

That's cos no one bothered to show us his face, isn't it... And I actually meant that in FOTR, we see the witchking's FACE {when Frodo slips on the ring}, so why not Sauron's FACE?

Again no one knows what Sauron's face looks like you see. tolkien never really gave us that certain picture.
