I know that LOTR and the Silmarillion and such LOTR-related stuff is considered British literature, but is the story supposed to take place in England, GB, or something like that?
Yes, it is, at least parts of it. Following the earlier ideas of Tolkien, it's a new mythology of England and takes place several thousand years ago - the european continent is something like a later development of northwestern Middleearth while England and Ireland are the broken pieces of the older Faerie island Eressea, brought there from the Coasts in the West - England is also where the last of the Eldalie were found, until they eventually faded... that's why Old English is also the only "modern" or "real" language the elves understand.
Tolkien also writes about the Golden Book of Tavrobel (Tavrobel being a city in Eressea) which he found somewhere near where he lived
Indeed the Undying Lands must have been located somewhere near later America, but after the Downfall of Númenor it was removed from the circles of the World and is now only reachable over the Straight Path... instead now there are the so-called New Lands (yea, nice name ), islands and maybe also larger continents, but I think not much is known of them...
But Aman is definitely not America Tolkien wasnt really fond of America and especially not of american films
i would say that elves went west and kept going, and kept going till the circled the globe and landed on the eaast shores of ME where they were captured and turn into orcs
valinor was one of saurons deceptions, thats why none came back
and galadriel was in on it, she gets a ring, she recruits elves for sauron, thats why she turned frodo against boromir!
well maybe not that extreme...more like if you were to ask a little boy named jimmy if he's seen a doggy go up and down on ones leg or if he's seen a grown man cry...often you'll repeat yourself and swat at unseen gnats....yeah?
