omg, not another one of these threads! No offense, but these threads are really annoying. There is a search feature on this site, just type in Hobbit and u'll get plenty of threads answering ur q.
As for ur question, it's unknown. If there is to be one, it won't be for several years.
There Will be a Hobbit Movie. With Ian Mckellen as Gandalf!
How do I know? Because I was watching a documentary and it said so whats next?
and he answered "Well, there maybe a little something in the making along the lines of a prequel"
And then it showed Gandalf the Grey stood infront of a YOUNG Bilbo at Bag end

Well, there is a petition that is being sent to the Tolkien Estate, and some other movie comp. so New Line can get the rights....
Don't know the link........
Yeah, But I hope they do, I mean, I have seen SUPPOSED footage which I belive to be true as it was interviewed with the one and only: Ian Mckellen !
But, Chistropher Tolkien doesnt like the Trilogy at all and he thinks it poorly depicts his Fathers work

Hobbit Bonus in MGM Buy
Acquisition may yield ''small'' benefits.
July 19, 2004 - New Line Cinema is getting serious in their pursuit of The Hobbit rights... so much so that they've unleashed parent company Time Warner on Hobbit rights holder MGM in a bid to buy the entire studio. Okay, maybe that's not the sole motivation behind the deal, but according to today's Variety, Time Warner is expected to snatch up MGM now that merger talks with Sony have started to flounder. As the trade says, The Hobbit would certainly be a nice bonus in such a deal.
Lord of the Rings filmmaker Peter Jackson is currently prepping for King Kong, but he's free after that. Back when New Line and MGM were going the traditional rights negotiating route, Jackson told AP Radio, "I guess MGM's lawyers and New Line's lawyers are going to have a huge amount of fun over the next few years trying to work it all out. I'm obviously busy for a couple of years on King Kong so those lawyers can just go at it for a long time."
The Hobbit follows Bilbo Baggins (played by Ian Holm in the Rings films), who found the ring and passed it on to his nephew, Frodo.
Jackson also told AP that he'd want the movie, naturally, to look a lot like the Rings trilogy. "I'd want Ian McKellen to be back as Gandalf, I'd want it to feel like it was part of the same mythology that we've done with Lord of the Rings," Jackson said.
I was at the Ringcon in Seattle back in Oct. and Royd Tolkin ( Tolkin's great great grandson ) was there. He said the rights has been worked out and Peter WILL be doing the hobbit. Just don't know when he is going to do it. He hasn't start King Kong yet. With Sir Ian about to work on X-Men, Peter is going to have to wait for him too.
Could tie them in together, I posted an idea on here ages ago about casting Sean Astin as Sam in The Hobbit and have him as the narrator, telling the story of Bilbo and The Ring to his children.
