its an enchanted elven dagger that was forged in the 1st age by gondolin ,glows blue if any orckin are near was found in a trolls cave by thorin and company .was given to bilbo baggins who slayed many spiders in mirkwood , than reforged it to say sting is my name i am the spiders bane (or something like that ) .than he gave it to frodo
