Why is it that when ever a jedi/sith dies there lightsaber turns of?

perhaps it automatically shuts off when not gripped, yet has a sort of locking mechanism for throwing. who knows.

Like a dead man's button. Once you let go, it switches off. Perhaps in throws they use the Force to keep the button pressed.

Seems odd to begin with that something as a lightsaber...very complex I don't doubt could work with a single button.
