Samurai Fiction 2: The Incident at Rokkatsu Pass -OOC and Character Creation
I call this Samurai Fiction 2. (SF Was an awesome movie!)
The year is 1704, and the prized sword of the Nagashima clan has gone missing once more. Instead of sending more of his retainers after the thief, Lord Nagashima hires ten warriors of varying arts to bring the sword back along with the thief's head. I will choose who the nine other warriors are when they post a sample RP post that explains how they gained the attention of Lord Nagashima. This sample should be written as it would be in the actual Story, and posted following the Character's bio. Each Character will be limited to knowing five martial arts picked from a list along with weapons, and will be given a rank by me depending on their Sample RP. After the nine have been chosen others who want to join can become auxilary characters that can either help or hinder the progress of the warriors.

The rules of player versus player combat are fairly simple.
1- Text is 3rd person, as is regular role playing.
2- No attack masking, this means that you must make your attacks clear and understandable.
3- No Godmoding, there are no life points and non-fatal attacks from a katana were very rare in life-threatening instances, so against any skilled swordsman, it was one hit one kill.
4- Duels between samurai were often very quick, not like the drawn out sword clashing seen on tv. It was usually several quick seconds of positioning before a quick fatal slash to end the battle.
5- Several things seen on tv that are unrealistic, innefective, and won't be found in a duel: a. Two samurai run at each other, pass each other, wait for ten seconds, one falls and the other walks away unscathed. b. slash after slash of sword clanging. c. leaping 5 yards in the air and comming down with a big slash on the opponent. d. (this is realistic and allowed, but doubtful that a skilled samurai would attempt due to it's sheer stupidity) running at the opponent full speed to deliver a large haymaker slash.
6- Battles between skilled martial artists were not like those seen in the "kung fu movies" where it's strike after strike of flashy spinning flipping moves. They were/are more like a chess match, positioning yourself and your opponent before striking.
7. No explicit use of curse words. The Feudal Japanese did not use that much beyond Shit or Damn.
Adding to the rule about Duels and swordfights: The Katana was not primarily a blocking weapon. It was very rarely used to block as seen in Kill Bill. Most of the duels ended in one decisive slash.
8.For those of you who don't know what a God-modder is, allow me to explain:
A god-mode-character is one who never seems to be badly wounded, always recovers "miracously" from any kind of condition, being unconsious, bloodloss, poison, broken limbs, etc...
Remember: ALL OF OUR CHARACTERS ARE MORTAL AND CAN DIE AND BE MORTALLY WOUNDED!
The death of a character is just the birth of a new one.
9. Any posts or topics that contain use of something that's secret, unseen, unknown, etc (example: the secret grove). a) Unless your character is very familiar with the place, don't barge in. If it's secret, it means that it's hard to find it, in other words, you don't just stumble in.
And if it seems that two characters are having "an important moment", such as a showdown or discussion... think twice before you decide to interfere.
10. Be patient with posts. Not everyone is able to be online 24/7... this is the point with play-per-post, that you should be able to be a part of it even if you're not online everyday. If a character hasn't posted in a LONG time (I'm talking 7 days or more), someone should be able to play the character without injuring or kill him/her or do something too drastic to change the plans. (I also think that maybe you should contact admin/mods about this.)
11. all posts, will very few exemptions must be at least six sentences long. this is so the other person has something to go off of. It gets real hard to play off something you’ve said if all you have is one sentence.
12. RESPECT. Respect the rules, respect the Admins, and respect others. This is the second most important rule. The rules must be followed or you will suffer the consequences. If one of the Admins asks you not to do something, then don’t. They're the final authority here. Respect others./ anything that is dealt with privately must be done through the messaging system (PMs.) do not purposely provoke someone in the out or character sections.
Note that Japan was cut off to the outside world and no foriegnors, Gaijin, were allowed to freely wander the country. One merchant ship from the Dutch and the Chinese were allowed to dock per year. Also, the average Japanese man was under 6 foot tall. So only Japanese characters and mostly under 6 feet tall. If you want a taller character Pm me a very justifiable reason to do so.
This Rp is more for the Mature rpers. I discourage the rpers like the ones clogging "Shinzinki's School of Martial Arts - RP Thread" with needless fights from joining SF 2. It will be a story driven RP were anime influences are not welcome and will have a firm foundation in reality.

History/Biography:He lived in a farm but one day his parents were killed by some evil samuris that attacked his farm he managed to escape but one of the Samuri shot him on the back with arrow. He fell to the river luckly someone managed to save him after he was 12 he set out on his own journey to his revenge. So far he has done good and saved people's lives and practiced with his Masamune but his fate calls him for more what awaits for him in the future?
Sample RP: Shinobi walked around the forest and he decided to take a rest by the river the river's cooling water refreashed Shinobi. Then he heard a crackling noise he grabbed his hilt of Masamune and slowly walked over to the sound. "Who's there!?" Shinobi yelled but no answer he walked over little more and slashed the bush he saw a kid crying "Oh great a kid..." Shinobi said and put his Masamune away. He went back to the side of the river and looked at the clear sky "......................" He was silent thinking about his past.
A warrior is not confined solely to the weapons he has trained with and the Jutsu he is skilled in. As many weapons have some similarities a warrior can adapt to whatever is at hand at only a slight penalty to his skill. If a man is Excellent in the use of a sword, he can pick up a Jo staff and use it quite well because they are similar. But there are still some differences, so his skill with a Jo would be Very Good instead of Excellent. He has suffered a 1 Level skill penalty. A Primary skill for using a weapon has no penalties, a secondary skill has a 1 Level penalty and a terciary skill has a 2 level skill penalty.
Next to the weapons name is a number, that's it's rarity number.
1 - Incredibly common, found almost everywhere, anyone was allowed to have it.
2 - Not allowed to be held by peasants.
3 - Only select groups knew how to use them. Very rare to see.
4 - A weapon only heard of in mythology.
5 - None knew of it's existence. These were usually ninja weapons.
Bo (Staff) - 1
At around six feet in length the Bo is made of either hardwood or bamboo and was a popular weapon for the peasantry that could not afford bladed weapons of great craft. With such size it's fighting style is characterized by long, sweeping blocks and strikes, powerful parries and the ability to defend against edged weapons by maintaining a safe distance and still being able to strike back.
Usually between two and three feet in length the Bokken is mainly used by Samurai to practice sword techniques, however because it is made of hardwood in practice some restraint must be used to prevent serious injury. Though mainly used for practice kata, the Bokken has become a popular weapon for ninja. Though it cannot cut, the hard surface can quite easily break bones and cause serious head injuries and also has the advantages of being lighter than a sword and it is very hard to accidentaly cut oneself with a Bokken.

Chigiriki - 2
A two foot long stick made of either bamboo or hardwood with a two and a half foot weighted chain attached to the end, this weapon is the Japanese morningstar. The heavy weight on the end of the chain is often covered in spikes. If the inside of the Chigiriki has been left hollow the chain can be concealed inside and the weapon used as a mace.
Darts were a staple weapon of the ninja, ideally suited for eliminating targets from short range using a poison tipped dart, or distracting an opponent with a relatively harmless but painful attack. Darts often had such fine points that they could be removed from a body without leaving a noticable mark. Female ninja would often use poisoned darts to pin up their hair and use them to stab a target at close range.

Dotanuki - 3
This sword design was first developed by master swordsmith Dotanuki Kunikatsu. Made to slice through its target with a single cut, a sword of Dotanuki design is characterized by its thicker and heavier blade.
This blowgun was another useful weapon for the ninja as it was so versatile. Made from a hollow length of bamboo it could be used to fire poison darts and other small objects over a distance. As it made almost no noise at all the ninja was unlikely to be discovered. Also it's hollow shape and look made it resemble reeds, so a ninja could easily use it as a snorkel and remain underwater for hours without being detected.

Hanbo - 1
At about the length of the forearm, this length of hardwood was very good for applying painful joint locks or adding extra venom to a strike. As it was much stronger than a forearm, it could be used to block attacks as well and even effect throws, although in this capacity it is not quite as effective as it's larger brothers the Bo and Jo staves, though it is far easier to conceal and use in a confined space.
This staff is of medium length, filling the size gap between the short Hanbo and the long Bo and as such it borrows hundreds of techniques from both weapons. From the Bo it takes it's powerful sweeping attacks and blocks, as well as the ability to block and strike in the same motion and from the Hanbo it takes it's many joint locks. But despite this the underlying technical approach to the Bo is taken from Kenjutsu. Many of the grips, strikes and stances are essential swordplay techniques, though it's blunt edges make it much more versatile than a katana.

Jutte - 2
With a steel shaft just under a foot in length the jutte has been designed purely for defense against swords and features a finger-width sword-trapper that runs parallel to the shaft. A common tool for police forces the Jutte can be used to quickly twist a sword out of the grip of a lesser swordsman as well as being useful for breaking fingers if someone were to throw a punch. Obviously the steel shaft can be used to strike powerful blows.

Kama - 1
Almost always used in pairs these weapons were quite formidable in the hands of a skilled user. Swung in various crescents and arcs and combined with a good forward momentum they could be used to deliver a flurry of devastating attacks. The small size of the weapon makes it easier to conceal and when used in pairs they are almost impossible to defend against with a single sword.

Katana - 2
The sword that is almost as famous as the warrior that weilds it. The Katana is one of the most enduring symbols of the Samurai and is his principle weapon. The blade measures between two and three feet in length and the handle (tsuka) can measure anything between six and eighteen inches depending on the weilder's preference, a larger handle giving better balance to the sword. The highest quality of Katana are extremely expensive, but can cleave a fully armoured man in two and will retain a sharp edge for years, however such swords are almost never found outside the houses of master swordsmen or Daimyo.
A sword much like the wakizashi only a slight bit longer. The two are so similar that the two are usually misused in mistake for the other. Though their looks may be similar, their construction and waza (fighting style) are completely different. The Kodachi's length and speed give it a sleek and swift striking capability as well as precise and powerful parries.
Kunai - 3
10-15cm nail that could be thrown or used to climb or put in the ground. This was not exactly a weapon but more of a tool. It's only known user were the Shinobi.
A Kama attatched to a long length of chain with a weight on the end. The Kama could be used in the traditional slashing and hacking motion, while the chain was well suited to trapping blades and opponents. By holding the chain the Kama could be swung around in a huge arc and used to deadly effect.

Kyoketsu-shogei - 3
Similar to the Kusari-gama, the Kyoketsu-shogei is a knife attached to the end of a length of rope and on the other end of the rope was a ring. The knife could be used for stabbing and slashing in close quarters, or swung around by holding onto the ring.

Naginata - 2
A staff with a blade attached to one end, this glaive was the primary weapon of horsemen and female Samurai. It had both great offensive and defensive power, with long reach, a sharp sword-like blade and a staff that could be used to easily block most attacks. From horseback the naginata's reach enabled a mounted Samurai to reach around the head of his horse and also swing behind him, giving him a great offensive arc.
Adapted from a rice flail the Nanchuka is likely one of the most versatile weapons in Japanese history. Aside from being easy to carry, the nanchakus were used to defend against most any weapon from a bo to a sword. By trapping the blade of a sword with the chain between the two sticks, a Ninja could entangle and disarm a sword-weilding attacker. The same concept applies to almost every other weapon. The nunchakus were not just used for defense, they could also be effectively employed against an enemy in an offensive way. The Ninja could strangle an opponent or even execute joint locks with the chain or cord between the two sticks.
A blade manufactured much differantly than the katana. The blade was straigh and around 55cm in length. It's handle long and hollow to secrete important items in. It was rarely ever sharp and when it was, it was at the tip where the cutting and stabbing was performed. The ninjato was sheathed to the back, strapped on so it wouldn't get in the way when climbing or jumping. The tsuka (hilt) was hooked at the end to be used as a launch pad over a wall if needed. The saya had a long cord attatched for multiple purposes.

Nodachi - 3
A unusually large blade between 80-90cm. Nodachi were carried over their back or by hand because they saya would drag if strapped at the hip. They used to be as common as the Katana, but the weapon was extremely hard to wield because of it's unbalanced weight and size. Though their power to cleave a man and horse in half with one well performed blow was unmatched, their speed in duels is what lead to their discontinuation and replacement by a more efficient killer known as the katana.
The Ono, unlike many of Japan's weapons, is large and unweildy. A huge axe better suited to battering down castle gates than single combat, it's weight and unbalanced nature make it difficult to use in a fight. For all it's flaws it is one of the cheaper bladed weapons as it takes less steel and less time to make.
A blade even rarer than the Nodachi, this weapon is any blade exceeding 90cm in length. On average, the blade was around 120cm in length making it incredibly heavy and unwieldly. It was unknown if these weapons were ever actually used in battle, or if any authentic waza even exist for the weapon. It's main purpose was to be used in ceremonies, or plays as weapons of large, lumbering gods, or as a clan heirloom. Also, in war, it could have been used as a large symble of an army, like a flag.
Sai, much like other Kobujutsu weapons, are used mostly in pairs and are quite effective against swordsmen. As they are pointed, not bladed, they can be held in a wide variety of grips and proper use is dependant on the users dexterity of his/her thumbs. The most advanced practitioners use three Sai, with a third tucked into the belt and ready for throwing.
Man Catcher. This was a 6ft metal rod with a U protruding from the end. The U shape was bigger enough to catch a torso. The wielder would ram the U into it's opponent and slam them to the ground. At the tips of the U were spikes to either stab if needed or to help dig the U into the ground. Once pinned, the victim was completely at the mercy of the Sasumata wielder.

Shinai - 1
Designed by renowned swordsman Kamiizume, the Shinai allows for full contact sword practice. Unlike the bokken, the Shinai is made of split bamboo, allowing it to flex on impact and only bruise instead of break bones. It is painful no doubt, but has few practical applications as a weapon, other than for training.
Primary Skills: Kenjutsu, Ninja Ken.
Shuko – 3
Tiger claws. This weapon consisted of a set of 3 blades protruding 12" from a gripped wooden bar, latched around the hand by a metal glove-like covering. This weapon could be used for parrying, climbing, and impaling. It's existence was only known to the Shinobi.

Shuriken - 3
They come in avariety of shapes and sizes but all are the same in their uses. Primarily the shuriken is used to distract. They are almost never sharp enough to inflict a serious wound, but the shape means that they can inflict a shallow cut and then bounce away. This makes use of the common myth about ninja that they can make themselves invisible and will make someone fear they have been cut by an invisible sword. Shuriken can also be dipped in poison. The problem with shuriken is that a ninja is very likely to cut himself on them when he reaches to take them out of their pouch.

Sodegarami - 5
Sleeve tangler. A 6ft metal staff with spiraling barbs at the last foot. The weapon was jabbed at an opponent's limb and as the barbs impaled into their garbs, the wielder would twist and painfully entangly an a limb, rendering the opponent to their disposal.

Tachi - 2
Field katana. A sword with a 78cm blade. The sword was more curved and a little bit longer than the Katana. Tachi were carried by calvalry to get that extra distance to cut through foot soldiers while mounted on a horse. The weapon was carried differantly as well, instead of the saya being fed through the obi (sash) like the katana, the tachi's saya dangled to their side from a cord tied to their obi.
A samurai’s knife, the blade 5" to 12" in length. Too short to be used in blade to blade combat, it's fighting style, Tantojutsu, is composed of moves from Jujutsu and Aikijujutsu as you would lock, then begin cutting away at your opponent.
Held by the handle, with the longest part along the forearm tonfa are another weapon powerful in both offense and defense with great strength against swordsmen. The hardwood makes them very good for striking and blocking and they canbe swivelled in the hand to provide extra reach.
T shaped pole. This weapon wasn't discovered until the more recent years. The weapon was a long iron pole with a spiked bar on the end. This weapon would sweep the opponent by tearing into their ankles and lifting their legs out from underneath them. Also can be used for jabbing.

Tsurugi/Butterfly Sword - 3.5
This term reffers to any chinese, double-bladed, broadsword imported to Japan. The wide blade of the Tsurugi was around 38cm long. These weapons were inefficient and useless because there was no one to offer propper training to this unusual foreign blade, although very cheap they were also very rare.

Yari - 1
The staple weapon of the Ashigaru (conscripted infantry) it takes little training to use effectively in large groups and as such is the bane of mounted warriors. Individually it can be a little awkward to use, though it has the defensive advantages of other staff weapons, it is difficult to make use of it's steel tip in close quarters.
The original weapon of the Samurai, the Yumi is likely the most powerful bow in the world. The best are made from wood and bamboo lacquered together and they usually measure around half a metre more than their user. Their power is measured by the number of men required to string the bow, with the average bow taking three men. While their power is great, the average bow does not fare well against armor.
An incredibly large and unwieldly weapon. It was a large slab of metal, sharpeded to be like a large triangle. This weapon was used in war and often required two men to manage. However, to it's good side, this weapon could cleave through whole horses in a single slice.

These names are basic categories in which many styles of performance exist. Once one is mastered however, others will come more easily. With each jutsu there is a 'level' in which signifies your skill in the art. Uppon creating a character, your experience as a roleplayer will be looked uppon and granted a maximum 'level', in which you can put any number up to, next to your jutsu.
0th Level - Untrained; No skill in the art whatsoever.
1st Level - Poor; Has likely only just begun training, this art will be of little use in combat
2nd Level - Average; nothing special but competent in the practice of the art
3rd Level - Good; Above average, is well trained in the basic principles of the art
4th Level - Very Good; Is beginning to develop a deeper understanding of the art
5th Level - Excellent; Well practiced and rarely fails in his attempts.
6th Level - Outstanding; Represents a level of mastery, the peak of normal human capability.
7th Level - Legendary; A level of great mastery worthy of a place in the history books
8th Level - Godlike; An impossible level of mastery, rendering the user almost undefeatable in his chosen art
You Rp experience is based on the length, clarity, and overall grammar and spelling of your Sample RP. If you start out with a low level you can pm me a request to raise it IF your Rping ability improves.
At God you need to read all of my rules carefully. I stated that you had to have good reason to be over six feet tall, and given the time period a sword of the length you describe would be illegal. Not to mention that a Farmboy with no formal training would be killed outright if he tried to fight. Masamune was a swordsmith of the 14th century, and there is no evidence he created swords of that nature. Most of his blades were Katana or Wakizashi. Try not to use Shinobi as a name as it represents the spies and other covert warriors of the time and remember that your sample rp determines what skill level you are at. Being a farmboy with no formal training and given your Sample RP i would give you and overall Level of 3. Work on it some more and even pm me if you want help, and maybe we can get your level up a little.

Weaponry: A Daisho with matching accents. Both have black cord-wrapped handles and red saya (sheath). Carries a 45” katana on his back that has been handed down in his family for generations, and is said to have been made by Masamune. It has a red cord-wrapped handle and a black saya.

Mental Description: Years of battle have made him a wise yet withdrawn individual. He lives by Bushido and looks down on those samurai who do not. Ryunosuke is a stern and serious samurai, but his heart always goes out to the lower classes.
History/Biography: Namioka Masaki was born to the Namioka family in 1674. His Father, Namioka Tadasuke, had been a mercenary working for rich silk merchants. He traveled with the silk shipments to ensure their safety. His skills came under the watchful eyes of Lord Nagashima. Tadasuke settled down in the Nagashima domain and and brought his wife there. She was a German woman that Tadasuke had met on his travels. Masaki was given the best training from his father, and because his appearence was not indistinguisable with other Japanese children Masaki was sent to a dojo to learn Kenjutsu. When Masaki came of age he was given his adult name, but it was lost to antiquety. Masaki was a large man and stopped growing at 6'6" tall, due to the German ancestry of his mother. His skill in Kenjutsu as well as his abnormal size led Masaki to be hired as a guard for the same wealthy Silk merchants that employed his father. His father as well as Lord Nagashima thought that it would help forge his samurai spirit in an age where battles were nonexistant. He traveled with shipments from Japan, up through China, and across the continent all the way to Europe. He had fought against many foes that most Japanese had never heard of. "Ryunosuke-Deputy Lord of Dragons" Nickname given to Ryu during his days as a Mercenary. After losing his left eye in one such attack, Ryu left his employers with a great amount of gold and began traveling Japan as a Shugyosha. Upon his travels he gained a few followers and taught them mostly philosophy. By the time he reaches thirty he comes back to become a retainer with the Nagashima Clan, but he arrives to learn that a ninja, Kotaro, has stolen the Sacred Sword that was a gift from the Shogun over eighty years ago. Lord Nagashima orders Ryu to bring him back the Katana along with Kotaro's head, and then he will be given a position in the Clan alongside his father. Ryu is told privately that nine other master warriors of varying skill have been hired for this job, and if any of them try betray the Clan to eliminate them.
Sample RP: The sun rose slowly above the horizon as a lone samurai walked down the long road to Ise. He paid no attention to the other travelers on the road. His black clothing trapped the heat to his body, which was good with the dropping climate. The samurai looked ahead of him with his right eye as shouts arose from the path. “Brigands!” a merchant with a cart said as he pointed to the fields. A group of five brigands were riding straight for the merchant’s cart. Without so much as a word the samurai ran straight for the wagon, not 25 yards ahead. The brigand leader stopped as the samurai came between him and the cart of goods. “Who the hell do you think you are? Move before we come down there and kill you.” The gruff looking thief said as he pointed his katana at the samurai. "I have defeated a total of thirty-five enemies. Get down from those horses and I’ll make it forty.” Ryunosuke said as right hand rested on the handle of his katana. The leader got off of his horse and motioned for his men to do the same. The men surrounded Ryunosuke as he came out to meet them. The leader attacked first coming at Ryunosuke from the front with a thrust. Ryu stepped to the right and grabbed the man’s wrist, which he kept going back into the gut of a man attacking from behind. With on fluid movement Ryu drew his sword and decapitated a man to his right. At seeing this two of the remaining brigands got on their horses and rode off as fast as their horses could carry them. Ryu slung the blood from his sword and sheathed it. The leader pulled his sword from his fallen comrade and faced Ryunosuke. “Damn you! That was my brother!” the man ran at Ryu and aimed a downward vertical thrust towards his head. Ryu trapped the blade between his hands and the two men fought for leverage, eight inches of the tip broke off in Ryu’s hands. Ryu lunged at the leader and plunged the blade shard into his throat. As the man fell to the ground coughing and choking on his own blood, Ryu walked to the three horses and mounted the best looking one. The horse calmly walked onto the road, and the two made their way towards Ise. Ryu had been gone from home for far too long, and now he was back.

History/Biography: Born in a small village, Jinn also wanted to be a warrior and trained for years with his staff until he became a traveller at the young age of 12 after his vaillage was burnt down by raiding scum. He honed the arts of the sword and sought our revenge, killing every one of his foes. he was noticed by the emperor (? is that right? Emperor?) and became a trusted samurai for over a decade until the last raider, their chief, cam back for vengeance and savagely attacked Jinn. Jinn was lucky to escape with only a wounded leg but now limps and is much slower in battle. He seeks to prove that he is still worthy as a samurai by finding the lost sword!
Sample RP: Jinn sat by the lake, listening. There were faint padding footsteps from the trees, and muttering. He slowly rose from his meditative position and unsheathed his katana from his back strap. He laid his staff down by the bank and limped stealtily behind a tree. As the first assasin passed, jinnj swung his sword in a deadly arc, cutting deep into the ninjas chest. He rounded from behind the tree but he was surrounded now- the assasins had been expecting his sneak attack or had seen him! He tried to duck away as a katana slash came at him and his sword hand was cleaved off! Jinn yelled out in pain and collapsed onto his knees, panting desperately. He shut his eyes and wispered:
"Yes. My time is up. Let me go to my God!"

History/Biography: Ashitaka was born in 1681. He lived his life in watch of lords and messngers that came to his small village, searching for able bodied men. He watched his father, brother, and uncle leave for the Emperor, and he new he was next. He watched as ronin and arrogant police came to his village, taking control of women whose husbands were away. But some still were noble and one even taught him the art of the sword. He left his village before he could be drafted into the empire and continued training himself. He took a liking to Ninja, and their line of work. He trained in the art of Ninjutsu and oushed himself to the limit. He now ends up here, in search of work for his stealth, and finds a journey much more than what he expected...
Sample RP:The forest was still. The trees gave no sign of movement. A rustle could be heard in the distance, with the slight thud of someone on a branch. It got closer and closer and seen barely in the trees was Ashitaka, his traditional navy blue ninja wear outfitted him. Green eyes could barely be seen in the light of the moon. He jumped down at a small creek, loud enough so he couldnt be heard. He lowered his face mask, and lifted a cupped hand to his mouth, taking a sip. He quickly placed the mask back to nose height and started to run, speedily and soundlessly through the forest. Only light tapping could be heard, and by someone who was excellent at hearing. Ashitaka froze and jumped on to a small stick of bamboo stuck in the ground, and started to jump higher as to women weilding umbrellas over their heads walked down the path, snickering and laughing. Once they were past, Ashitaka jumped down from his perch, only to catch himself on a branch and begin leaping from tree to tree once more.

Physical Description: often travels unarmored. His Nodachi is strapped fimly to his waist, so it won't touch the ground.
History/Biography: He belonged to a secret clan. He was exiled after disobeying an order and killing an elder of the clan. Another elder was sent to capture him, but decide to train him instead. the elder trained him so he could defend himself against the clan when they found out he was still alive. The elder knew of the corruption within the clan, so he trained the boy to destroy the clan. The boy wated years, until he was 20, and attacked the clan by suprise. With the help of his master, he destroyed the clan. His master was killed in the attack. After destroying the clan, he left his dead master behind and travelled his own way. During a bloody battle, he arrived unannounced and slew some of the greatest samurai of a clan. He then escaped. He continued to hutn and kill whomever he liked. He was soon known as the thousand slayer for many rumors say he slew 1000 Samurai in a battle. (Rumors only) Kyou had heard of someone hiring ronin and mercenaries to find a sword. Kyou was running low on money, so he decided to join the group.
Sample RP: Kyou woke up to find that the assassin had found him. He could hear his movements outside. Clearly this was a novice assassin. Professionals would have already attempted to kill him. Kyou unsheathed his sword and stabbed it through a thin wooden wall and heard a cry of pain. He pulled out his bloodied sword and heard one of the assassin's corpse hit the ground. Kyou quickly opened the door and escaped into the night. He felt insulted that someone was only sending novices after him. Either way, whoever sent the assassin was going to have a very violent death.

The Sample Rp needs to explain how your character came under the attention of the Nagashima clan. What makes your character better than the other warriors out there.
Crimson the last battle fought in Japan was in 1638, 66 years before this takes place. Red eyes and hair is more indicative of anime and will not be tolerated. It would be rare to see a Japanese person with outlandish hair colors in 1704. As for the Odachi, as I said before the weapon would be illegal, and in actuality would only have been used by those of Incredible strength.
There is no empire, the emperor does not control things. He is the Pope of Japan. The Shogun runs things, but each province has a Daimyo that commands the people in his province.
5 jutsus is the maximum allowed. I have one major complaint about your characters. Most were born in villages and not trained in anything until something happend. A samurai would not teach a little peasant the sacred arts of the sword. In order to survive in these days you needed to train from an early age. Rework you histories and Sample Rps a little and when you are satisfied I will pass judgement as to your skill levels

History/Biography:Ashitaka was born under a clan of skilled ninja, and like them, he trained under the village headmaster. He was taught Ninja Ken, and Kobujutsu, as well as Kenjutsu. When he was around thirteen, he began to train under his father's command, the art of Ninjutsu, and over the course of three years he learned it quite well. His clan gave him several tasks, to see if he was worthy of further training. One lone task presented itself harder than most, and he trekked Japan in search of an object, though its name has been lost. Six years later, he returned to his mountainous village and was welcomed greatfully, though he didnt find the sacred object. He was trained in the art of Shinobiiri for another year before he finally left his village once more, never to return. He arrived at the palace of Nagashima, hearing rumors of the prized sword that was stolen from him, and the reward to find it.
Sample RP: Ashitaka rose from his bedroll in a clearing of the forest. He quickly placed everything as it was, putting out his small fire, and resuming his disguise as a traveling merchant, though the road he was traveling was unoccupied. He kept walking, enjoying the days light when he came across the small foot bridge that led into the domain of Nagashima. As he had expected, the guards asked him what he wanted and what his buisness was. He handed the one that looked profoundly dumb a scroll with some writing on it, explaining next to nothing of what he was doing. The guard looked over the scroll for a minute or two and then grunted, "You may pass." And Ashitaka did. ~Luckily he cant read.~ he smirked as he continued to push the cart forward. He arrived at the large doors to the domain and set his cart aside, and walked in. Another guard, wich looked a bit smarter, asked what he wanted. When Ashitaka told him, he said "Liar! Tell me what you are, and what you are doing here!" Ashitaka bowed and raised a hand, to keep the man from attacking. "I am here to pledge my services, and to help find the lost sword of the Nagashima. As for what I am, only my employer may know." The guard stood there for a moment, his eyes narrowed and his teeth showing, "I will see if your, services, are needed." And with that he left Ashitaka in the lone room, only the two guards by the door and himself remained.

That is much better. Ashiitaka I give you 5th Level - Excellent; Well practiced and rarely fails in his attempts.
As I said as you get better you can ask to be upgraded. Rate your jutsus like i did mine. You don't have to be a 5 at all of them if you don't want to, but you can if you feel up to it.
The sample RP should be like Ashiitaka's. Some can come to his attention through wise advice on the warrior's part, or even through their skill when challenging his best warriors to a duel. it is you decision, but you need to show how you were hired. Sorry if I seem like a total hard-a$$, but I get tired of anime influences and misinformation finding their way into RPs like this one.
