If the machines were so hellbent on control and could grow humans, why not make them androgynous, or do they have to be of either gender to fit in with the systematic anomly plan?

And also if the humans are grown (cloned?) why isn't there like ten of the same people running around. In the Animatrix, the machines only saved a few humans, and basically cloned them. How is there any free will? If the humans have been grown for so long, how is the human even able to think for itself? That makes ya wonder doesn't it?
