Title: Dead & Buried (2 Disk Anchor Bay Release)
Genre: Horror
Film released: 1981
Dvd released: 2004
Rating: UK 18, US R
No of disks: 2
Tagline: It will take your breath away......All of it
Something very strange is happening in the quite village Potters Bluff where tourists are warmly welcomed, then brutally murdered. But even more shocking is when these slain strangers suddenly reappear as normal friendly citizens around town. The local sheriff must try and uncover the horrific secret of a community where some terrifying traditions are alive and well...and no one is ever really DEAD & BURIED.
Picture: As always Anchor Bay have done a good job with the picture quality, they present an anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) transfer. There is a slight bit of grain present throughout the film.
Sound: Audio options include a stereo 2.0 track and optional 5.1 DTS track. Subtitles for the hard of hearing are also included. Very good sound quality overall. There are three audio commentarys included. The first one is with the director Gary A Sherman and the 2nd commentary is by co -writer/co-producer Ronald Shusett and actress Linda Turley. And the third one is with cinematographer Steve Poster.
Features: Decent interface, you see a head of a corspe rise up from the ground and then you get to see hands of a mortician moulding a mangled head into a perfect head...errrm nice
Extras: Extras are decent. Personally i dont think two disks was needed on this release. On the first disk you get the three commentarys which are great and provide lots of detail about the making of the film. On the second disk there are three interviews. Firstly there is an interesting 17 minute documentary about Stan Winston’s effects. Second , there is a nice little ten minute chat with the one and only Robert Englund about his involvement in the film. The third interview is with Dan O’Bannon, moaning about how he wasnt involved in the film that much.
Also there is a trailer, stills galery and some biographies.
Overall: Dead & Buried is a brilliant cult classic and is one of my favourite horror films. It is very enjoyable and deserves to be in any horror fans collection. The acting is great and the special effects are amazing and very realistic. Anchor Bay have done a great job in bringing it to DVD. Movie gets an 8/10 and DVD gets 8/10.
Dead & Buried is the very definition of a sleeper movie. Generally ignored by critics and audiences on its original release. The film has slowly developed a reputation as one of the more unusual and impressive horror films to emerge in the early 80's. Anchor Bay now presents a newly transfered, fully uncut print giving everyone the chance to finally catch up with one of the great lost horrors of the 1980's.
