Well they are certainly not selling new releases at that price. New releases at Tesco are all around the £12 mark as usual. New releases are still quite expensive most places, especially the likes of HMV.

It's more the older films that are cheap, saw Titanic for around £3, but it's a bare bones 1 disc edition. Most cheap ones are.

What 'good' films did you see for £2?

new releases are not cheap at all here in cali..

movies that have been on dvd for a few years and aren't really selling are often times sold at a very cheap price to try to get people to buy them

I'd imagine 'cos of Blu-Ray and the markets fierce competition.

Your lucky, in Germany they have set prices for new Books, CD“s and DVD“s. No one is allowed to bulk buy and sell of cheap like Tesco“s do.

Plus who buys DVD“s nowadays? Either rent then and watch them once or download them as torrent (Mininova etc) as Xvid, either way its much cheaper which brings the value down.

Plenty still buy DVDs, and I'm one of them. There are people out there who don't download and renting is too much of a wait for films you really want to see. stick out tongue

New release DVDs in the shops are still not cheap, HMV in store sell them around the £17 for most. I even say The Class in the world cinema selection for £21!! HMV are crazy.

I don't need to, can get most new releases for around the £8 mark online. Supermarkets are hardly any better outside of one disc editions/older films in most places.

Exactly , just like how video's got cheap as dirt when dvd came out. If anybody's old enough to remeber that.

Explain your statement other than just your opinion? Can you? Are all video's shit quality as you put it? Are all dvd's great quality? Are even some dvd's better quality visually than a high grade video tape? I think the answer to those question's is yes and no. It all depends on the video or the dvd. Nobody hates dvd , on the contrary , it has givin us a lot and had made the way for Blu-ray and High defenition , but your statement that dvd is better in all area's than a sharp , high grade video tape is just your opinion , unless you can explain in techniqial terms and than I'll certainly back off from my opinion. Although I have a feeling that neither of us are tech people and just basing an opinion from our own experiance , which is fine.

http://www.dynamicdvd.co.uk/vhs_vs_dvd.aspx

That's one where it's easy to find, but a number of places agree and that's what I've always been taught.

Fortunately, now most DVDs unless you go with a label that can't be bothered, are very good transfers. Out of my whole dvd buying, I think 2 or 3 were incredibly crap for transfer, so to me, it's rare for bad transfers, just got to know what you are buying.

I didn't mean shit quality as a whole, I use to be fine with VHS, as most, but then DVD came along and it was plain to see there was an incredibly noticable visual difference between VHS(not SVHS by the way) and DVD, especially now on flat screen large televisions that a lot of people have.

I also believe to get very good quality VHS playing, you have to have rather good equipment, specialist.

I liked the look of VHS -- it was a closer medium to actual film. Digital video is so... meh to me. Plus VHS last longer.
