Obi-Wan Kenobi's age
Obi-Wan Kenobi became Master Qui-Gon Jinn's padawan learner at age 13. In TPM novel it stated that Obi-Wan had been with Qui-Gon Jinn for 20 years. That makes Obi-Wan 33 in TPM and 65 at the time of his death in ANH. Obi-Wan outlived Qui-Gon by 5 years since Qui-Gon was 60 at the time of his death in TPM.

OB1 was 25 in TPM, so it made him 57 when he died in ANH. I know, it doesn't make sense, OB1 looked a lot older than that in ANH, but then everyone will come up with the 'in the desert you age quicker' excuse.

Nothing shows that OB1 was wrong about that. Even in EpI he refers to Yoda's teaching. "Master Yoda told me to be mindful of the future." So that's not really a continuity error. It would have been weird if OB1 would have referred to a dead master, that'd make no sense at all.

I think Yoda did train him - but he's using the word in a different context. Although he was Qui - Gon's Padawan learner, when he says "trained" I reckon he is referring to a Jedi' s final test - the Jedi trials.

He used the word "instructed", I guess that's exactly what Yoda did. Even from the TPM point of view.

I also believe that Yoda's instruction of Obi Wan will be as much to do with advising himn on how to train Anakin as well.

Possibly, but it seems to me OB1 refers to instruction from the old master in an earlier stage of his life. It seems to me QGJ came along for the last stage of his training, the last couple of years I mean.

Yoda was the Grandmaster of the Jedi order (at the time of TPM). He taught all the other Jedi, because he was the oldest and had the most wisdom. It would've been better if Ben said "You will learn from Yoda, a Jedi master who instructed me." Notice "a" instead of "the". Makes more sense?

I agree with queeq (did I say that again ???) I think Yoda did instruct ObiWan for the first part of his life, then QuiGon took him on as a padawan. Maybe when Ben told Luke about Yoda, he didn't want to bring QuiGon into the conversation, just for personal reasons. Memories he didn't want to relive at that moment.

It is possible as stated before that Jedi are meant to start training apparently at a very early age and in fact can be noticed at birth. As such it is possible that he was taken on by Qui Gonn from 5 though not utilising the term Padawan till 13 at which point it was more on the hop training. Between 5 and 13 Ob1 may have gone through a series of tutors who much like lecturers possibly specialise...

But that is all speculation. I take it OB1 did not lie on this one. It seems rather daft to start explaining who QGJ was and that OB1 had more than one Jedi Master when they're all dead and Luke is freezing to death. He may have enjoyed the snow, but it doesn't strike me as the proper place for a Jedi history lesson or more talk from grandpa about his exhilirating youth. OB1 just stuck to the basics and that sounds fine to me.

Ah, the blast of the trumpet against the monstrous regiment of over-rationalisation... I could do with your help on the Australian sabre nutter's site, queeq. You should see how they have defined sub-light...

Be damn careful where you post there. It's a very serious place. I've just commented on a couple of things I though I could get awy with.
Check out:
Size of Imperial Starfleet (sound familiar? Check out it's predecessor as well, DS occupants)
Sublight Engines- That's it! (that's a mad one...)
Jedi Powers.
If you post anywhere else, you have my respect...
And I think the plasma sabre wasn't his CHOSEN model, just one of his many ones...
Anyhow, link is
http://pub26.ezboard.com/bbobsstarwarsstuff
I also highly recommend anyone to visit his main site. They guy is mad, but his section on sabres is superb.

Yes, I heard about that site. And that the guy is mad. Let's see if I can stir the place up a bit.
