How did Anakin manage to become a Jedi Spirit?

I think maybe Yoda and Obi-Wan found him in the netherworld and showed him how to come back. That's my dumb guess.

Anyone know if Lucas ever addressed this? Are we assuming Anakin didn't know how to retain his identity? Alot could've happened between Ep III and Ep VI. I have a feeling there'll be some EU about this.
