I am C-3PO, Human Cyborg-Relations
I personally thought Anakin being C-3PO's master was a big mistake. Here's an idea. What if 3PO took the place of TC-14 in TPM and when the Viceroy came down he could have joined him. After the battle between the Gungans and the Trade Federation, Amidala could have "adopted him" and then he could have became a servant on the Naboo starship which contain R2-D2. What do you think about this?

Hey, Golden Rod! I'm talking to you!!
You have an interesting point. I felt bad for TC-14 getting destroyed in the reactor explosion.

Even though it was cool seeing 3PO in his unfinished state, I still think this would have worked out for the best.

Re: Hey, Golden Rod! I'm talking to you!!
To make Threepio have more screen time he should have been in place of Jar Jar throughout the film. Like you say, if he were in the place of TC-14 then he could have somehow got down to Naboo with the Jedi and gone on the journeys with them from there, bumping into R2-D2 on the way as well.
I have no idea how the Otoh Gunga bit would fit in though, especially as Threepio probably wouldn't work under water.

I think R2 and 3PO should never have been dragged into the PT.

Re: Hey, Golden Rod! I'm talking to you!!
"Controversial" is my middle name.
But honestly, what function do they have apart from pure recognition. They have to be forced into a story that is definately not theirs at all.
In ANH it was different: R2 was the carrier of the vital information the entire movie was all about. Bringing the droid to safety was what it was all about. And 3PO was his interpreter. Quite understandably that they all stick together. And they both get big parts, not cameo's like in TPM. I really doubt they have much to add to the PT story. But what the heck, 3PO has two more different looks so it's good for merchandising.

Queeq is certainly right. I hope GL makes their roles far more important in the next two films.

Re: Hey, Golden Rod! I'm talking to you!!
I think a lot of people assumed TC-14 WAS 3po until she spoke. Then everybody in the theatre was like..."OH, THAT'S NOT 3PO...WOW...wonder when he's gonna pop up." It was kind of a nice surprise at the beginning. IMHO OC.

Re: Hey, Golden Rod! I'm talking to you!!
Really? I never thought about that for one minute myself. I mean, there were several types of droids like 3PO in the OT. Empire shows two for instance (I can't remember if there were more) and Owen Lars also recognised a protocol droid in 3PO. He must be a very common model. With 3PO I've seen at least three in TPM.

Re: Hey, Golden Rod! I'm talking to you!!
Well, I read this somewhere in a book on Star Wars (NO not EU, it was more like an editorial, a direct interview with GL). He stated he wanted an unalive, yet-prominant character (robot) who could be considered a loyal part to the Star Wars saga. Sort of like a pet, but something that would be able to survive the 60 year-length or so of this movie continuation. This merely says that R2-D2 was a shoe in for all 6 Episodes. GL must have a softspot for a non-living character that will help all and have signifance in the story. How else would a droid last so long? In ANH, you saw the droids on the Star Destroyer, how is a protocol droid and an astrodroid just going to appear? A well-working protocol droid like C3PO was prized material in the days after the republic, therefore he had to have some sort of secret behind him, or else he would have landed in the duties of a Coruscant Mechanic. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT="">

Re: Hey, Golden Rod! I'm talking to you!!
I don't know, UBH. You're making too much out of that droid. They were meant to be commoners, low working staff, and I doubt that GL changed his mind about that. You're making too much out of Threepio, I think.

Another Skywalker offspring
It seems as if the way this is being played out is that Anakin originally built Threepio and then in Episode II, we will see Padme putting the 'skin' on him, thus completing him so in a sense they are his mother and father and then he goes on to aid Anakin and Padme's 'organic' offspring throughout the original trilogy.

Re: Another Skywalker offspring
Let's not forget that the inspirations for the Droids were the peasants from Kurasawa's "The Hidden Fortress"- one of GL's favourites- who followed the Lord/Hero around and saw everything he did. The act as the common-denominator narrators for the film.
He had C3-P0 and R2-D2 doing almost exactly the same thing in the Original Trilogy. Unexpectedly, they weren't doing the same thing in Ep 1, but I suspect that, now they have been introducued, they will take up the same "narration" role in Episodes II and III.

Re: Another Skywalker offspring
I'm afraid 3PO will loose that role as common-denominators now that he is Anakin's creation, he metal bodied first born. If GL likes to pursue this idea with Padme finishing 3PO, the droid reaches a mentor status of some sort, a protective guardian for Luke. For me 3PO may loose its flavour.

Re: Another Skywalker offspring
I find it interesting to note that, it is Anakin AND Threepio who save the galaxy from the dark side in ROTJ, if it wasn't for Threepio's storytelling techniques (Something, which he stated in ANH, he couldn't do, well not making them interesting anyway.) The Ewoks would not have joined in the fight against the Empire and the Emporer's plan would have succeeded.

Re: Another Skywalker offspring
To be fair, EVERY main character in the Original Trilogy contributed to the final victory in a major way. The difference is, NO-ONE else could have done what Anakin did, where as in theory any protocol droid could have done what C3-P0 did.

Re: Another Skywalker offspring
I'm not so sure Ushgarak, Artoo and Threepio are unique because of the fact that they have avoided a memory wipe for so long, this accounts for their 'personality's'.
