Not wishing to sound stupid...

..but I can't help it really.

Whilst watching ESB tonight I noticed something for the first time, when Yoda and R2 are fighting over the flashlight, once Luke tells R2 to let him have it and R2 lets go, Yoda has a really good look at R2, it's almost a double take as if he recognises the little R2 unit. Has anyone else noticed this before?

you're right, you sound stupid wink

R2 gets a memory-wipe and there are lots of R2 units, looking like R2-D2

Yes, that's what I thought, hence the title of the thread.

What does R2 having a memory wipe have to do with whether Yoda recognises him or not?

I have no opinion on the CG vs puppet issue....
but practically speaking....I'm not sure that when that scene was shot they had any clue that yoda would end up seeing R2 before.....BTW I'm not positive yoda really was introduced to R2 anyway

I remember this exact same topic coming up back when this was an eZBoard community. So you aren't sounding stupid. At first I refused to believe it but when I watched it more closely I saw this.

And R2 having a memory wipe has nothing to do with Yoda's ability or inability to recognize Artoo. Also, despite the fact that there are many R2 units in the galaxy, the fact that this unit was with Luke might have made Yoda look twice and ask himself how Luke got ahold of them. (Since they stayed in the hands of the Rebellion).
