then during the period of 99-2005 the dreams became NIGHTMARES

Amen to that. Quite common, the lightsabre one.

I think, apart from their inherant coolness, its that they are a constant in the whole saga, and therefore is high-ranking candidate for the likelyhood of it becoming a symbollic icon in dreams.
Then comes the purchasing of the master replicas so seldom understood by the missus.... shifty
