I dont know if you guys watch dr who but at the end of serias 3 his master gets shot. the doctor trys to save him by telling him to regenrate.
At the end he dies and the doctor burns him .
it reminds me of ROTJ how luke wanted to save his father.
Luke wanted to save Vader because he was his father and he could still see good in him.
The Doctor wanted to save The Master as else he'd be the last Time Lord and also I guess he still saw a little good in him.
