KMC Forums - Batman Speech for English

At school recently I got set a task to do a speech on my favourite hobby. I did it on reading comic books, it is mostly about Batman through. Here it is, feel free to post your opiouns about it. From school and outside I have got good feedback on it. I have to read it out in the next two days in front of my class.

I am here today to talk you about Comic Books. I know what you thinking, Comic Books they just for kids, Geeks with pig like laughs and thirty year olds who just can�t get a life. But lend me your eyes for 3 or 4 minutes and I will perhaps try to convince you otherwise. In particular I want to talk to you about a Comic Book character I enjoy reading about and his name is Batman. Spawned from the great mind of Bob Kane who only created him at the young age of 19 at a time where comic books provided escapism for many people who worried about the ever growing threats of war.

The year was 1938 and after the success that was Superman a young man who had just entered what was at the time the young comic industry was given an interesting assignment . His task was to create a complementary character to DC first success which was Superman. The young man name was Bob Kane and he felt that this character should be a realistic and a dark character. This is probably why he is so appealing to me, because his stories are really dark and he feels like a realistic hero that could even exist in today`s world, well that is only if anyone is willing to dress up a Bat and stalk fear into criminals. I also like him because more then other superhero he has had more good writers and artist doing his stories like Frank Miller, Danny O�Neal, Neal Adams Grant Morrison, Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee. These guys for decades have brought such classics Batman stories like The Dark Knight Returns, Arkham Asylum, Hush, The Killing Joke, and Batman Year One.

In particular my favourite story is The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller It is about a 60 year old Bruce Wayne, who is celebrating his 10th year of giving up being Batman. But as a new gang known as the mutants enter Gotham City, the bitter as well as deeply depressed Bruce Wayne dons the persona of Batman again to save Gotham from the threats of the Mutant Gang. Filled with non stop action including, Batman final battle with the Joker and the grand finale which pits Batman against a corrupt Superman. The Dark Knight Returns is Batman is at his darkest and Frank Miller at his best. It still remains a fan favourite as well as my Batman story because it was the story that redefined the Dark Knight for a new generation of readers and it provided inspiration for Tim Burton�s Batman film that was a huge success when it came out in 1989.

Now you are probably wondering how I got into a character like this and the answer lies in what happened last summer. Like any young person I was looking forward to a good summer blockbuster. There was Star Wars Episode III and Batman Begins. After I saw Batman Begins I was inspired to seek out and read Batman comics. And as soon I got into Batman comics I was opened into a world of tragedy, pain and darkness. And this is why I like reading comics partially Batman comics
