Downward Fall - By Vinny

Okay this is a school story I had to write about depression and suicide. Not My kind of writing at all but I gave it a shot. We had 1 hour to write it.

Downward Fall
Neil Green

Kenny Miho was your normal, everyday teenager. He was doing fairly well in school, his grades at an average level. Kenny wasn’t as dedicated to his schoolwork as much as he was to his athletic life. He happened to be the captain of the Bantam Triple, a league hockey team. His team was the number one in the province and had been holding that title ever since Kenny had been accepted onto the team.
Kenny had now been on the team for about a year and a half. The first year he won the most valuable player award and he was going for it again this year. He had shots that amazed everyone he played against, his team was very glad to have him. Kenny’s bedroom walls were filled with posters of his favorite hockey teams and players also, hanging on the walls were medals he had won from championships that he had been in each year due to hockey; almost all were gold medals.
Kenny had sponsors from local businesses all around his town. He thought it was pretty easy to get a sponsor, all he had to do is get his mother to make a video of him playing and doing skills, then they sent it into certain companies he chose himself and eventually he would get word from them if they wanted to sponsor him or not. Kenny did send in his video to three different companies and after two weeks he got word from all three; Subway, Tim Horton’s and Cleve’s.
Kenny had it all, a full sponsorship that would pay for all his excellent equipment and a hockey career that gave him a superior outlook for the future. This was something he never thought would ever end, but he was wrong, dead wrong.
It was a normal day in January; Kenny woke up at 7 to his computers alarm clock blasting his favorite song, same as always. He got up, had a shower then headed down for breakfast. It seemed like a good day because everything was going so well, his mother had even made him his favorite breakfast, a bacon & egger.
He ate his breakfast then headed out to school, making it there about 5 minutes early. All he did was chat with a few of his friends before being aloud into the school.
Kenny was bored in class as always and he just sat there and listened to his teacher ramble on about variables and rational numbers, what was going on in his head though was the scores from the night before hockey game. His favorite team, the Philadelphia Flyers, had lost to the Toronto Maples Leafs. He was really upset when his favorite player had gotten his arm broken in the game but it’s a rough game and what happens, happens.
It felt like forever but the bell finally rang for lunch to begin, everyone flooded downstairs to the cafeteria except for Kenny. Kenny made his way to the boy’s bathroom with a small kit that he had retrieved from his locker. Once in the bathroom he opened it; it had a needle in it with a little bottle of transparent liquid, with the words steroids on it. Using a rubber band, Kenny tied it at the top of his arm to cause a vein to pop up so he could get a good injection. He filled the needle up with the liquid and right as he went to inject it his gym teacher walked into the bathroom. Kenny had been stupid to not do it in a closed stall but it was too late now.
“Kenny what are you doing?!” Shouted the gym teacher as he came and grabbed the needle away from Kenny.
“I…I…” Kenny tried to speak but nothing came out.
Shaking his head, the gym teacher took Kenny by the arm to the school office where he explained what he had witnessed to the principal. Kenny just sat there ashamed as the principle scolded him about drug usage and such. Eventually they called his parents and had them come and pick him up. His mother did and she brought him home, scolding him just as the principle had at the school. Kenny gave a snappy comeback to his mother about how it wasn’t her life and she shouldn’t be telling him how to live it. This ended with an open handed slap to his face, and that ended all the talking between them until they got home.
Once they got home Kenny was sent to his room and told to stay there until his parent’s had time to think about what would happen. He did as instructed and just moved to his room, slamming the door.
After a good two hours of the parents dealing with matters involving the matter at hand, they walked into Kenny’s room and sat down. They explained to him that they had called his coach and told him all about it, and that he would not be playing on the team again. Tears started to form in Kenny’s eyes as he heard this, but his parent’s told him it was what he got for cheating to get where he was at.
They also told him that they had arranged for him to be staying at a medical institute until he could get over his addiction to steroids. He objected saying how he was fine and if they gave him one chance to prove to them that he was okay he would, but they just told him no and how he would be leaving the next day so pack a bag of clothes, nothing else.
His parent’s left the room and he sulked for a good 3 hours before he pulled himself together and got his bag of clothes ready. After his bag was ready he lay back down on his bed and went to sleep.
Early I the morning, around 6AM his father barged into his room and pulled him out of his bed, telling him to get dressed because it was time to go to the medical center. Kenny just slumped around as if he were a little child. He put on his darkest clothes then took his bag and walked out of his room. He figured that if the thought he was a drug addict so bad he might as well start looking like the people who do the hardcore drugs. His mother and father were waiting by the door and he made his way down and outside to there little car. They looked at him in his dark rugged clothes and just shook there heads.
They drove Kenny to the center and dropped him off; giving him hugs and kisses before he was escorted to a room by a doctor. The room he was brought to was a small room with a bed and 1 window, the window had two bars behind it; Kenny felt like he was a prisoner. He lie down on his bed and fell back asleep for a good two hours, before being woke up by a nurse who walked into his room. The nurse told brought him to a room with other teens around his age.
The next half and hour or so was just them going back and fourth talking about their problems and how they were trying to fix it. Kenny got quite stressed out from it and finally got up and left the room, he went back to his room and stuffed his pillow into the window to block out the sunlight, and he wanted it dark, in his room, black.
A nurse came into his room to find him lying on the floor, awake but not moving. She got very scared because they thought he had committed suicide but luckily he had not. She had rushed over to him and pulled him up; he just sat there and looked at her blankly. Kenny was then put into a room where he would be constantly monitored; they figured that he had gone under great mental depression from losing all his hockey achievements so they needed to keep him safe.

Kenny was brought in to see a special doctor who was specialized in talking with teens. He talked about all kinds of things life was worth living for and how this was just another obstacle in life. Kenny acted strange; he was acting very happy for some reason. He had a great smile on his face and answered all the doctors questions with great enthusiasm, this was one of the things tat worried the doctor. After the meeting the doctor gave his notes to the nurses and they agreed, Kenny had to be kept safe until they could get some kind of help for him.
Kenny was brought into a room with all padded walls, and for safety measures they had cameras on him at all times. This is where Kenny stayed for a good few weeks. He underwent many different ways to try and treat his condition, anti-depressants and therapy but none of it worked; Kenny wouldn’t speak to anyone anymore, it seemed like treatment was useless.
One night when the lights went out in Kenny’s room Kenny got up and quickly moved over to the wall below the camera so it wouldn’t be able to spot him. He figured he had a good 10 minutes before they got to him.
The security noticed that he wasn’t there and they called down for doctors to be rushed to his room. Two doctors and a nurse rushed down the hall and barged into his room, Kenny was right though, it took them about 10 minutes to get there and that was all the time he needed. As they got into his room they looked over to the corner of his room, below the camera. The nurse left the room due to the site and the doctors rushed over to him; Kenny sat in a puddle of blood. It seems that when Kenny had got under the camera he had ripped into his wrists with hi teeth, pulling out his veins and causing him to massively start bleeding. In the time it took for the doctors to get to him it was too late, Kenny had died.
Kenny had been said to have died due to being overwhelmed with losing his achievements and also drug abuse, but once he wasn’t able to get his drugs he went into a massive depressive state which he couldn’t exit. Eventually he figured the best way out was to kill himself. Kenny died at the age of 14 due to drug abuse ruining his life and putting him into depression, this just goes to show you that one mistake could ruin your life.
