help me out with hitchcock

I recently viewed an old black and white flick, and I am positive it was a hitchcock. The movie is about a guy who is about to be hanged from a bridge, as he falls to his death the rope breaks and he escapes dowvriver, after along journey he finally arrives at his house and just as he sees his wife, we come right back to the bridge and the man is hung. It was a fantasy. Brillilant piece of film making but I cant recall the name for the life of me. Little help?
