Hostel got it's idea from when Eli Roth and one of the producers were talking about the most disturbing internet sites they have stumbled upon. One of the sites was based in Thailand and it would allow someone to shoot another person in the head for money.

Hostel had to go to the lengths it went to as the modern horror audience is now completely desensitised. It is, in my view, as close to the perfect slasher movie as you can get. The original question is this thread is stupid though. Do you really think Eurotrip was the first movie to have its charcters embark on a European vacation?
No, I would say it got most of the ideas from these films:
Children of the Corn
TCM
Ichi the Killer
Guinea Pig
Zombi
Lucio Fulci's The Beyond.

The zombie looking kids in the town. They're very reminciscent of the kids in Children of the Corn. It seems the kids have some kinda of cult going on.
