 Question does anyone know the title of this horror movie?

hey everyone, i hope someone can help me out here... i'm trying to think of the name of a horror movie, probably from the late 80s or maybe 90s, i cant remember the title but i seem to remember this little kid walking by a house, i dont know if it was his own or not, on his way to school & he looks up to this attic window & sees a sock-monkey starring back at him. He walks past the house and around the corner of the block on his way to school or something & on that side of the house up in the attic window he sees the monkey/like its watching him from that window or following him.... does this ring a bell with anyone?/movie name?

My guess would be "Monkey Shines" right off the bat, but that was a real monkey not a sock monkey. Do you remember anything else of the film?
