Maybe so, but it's not about picking classics, it's about picking your own personal favorites.
Me and a couple of friends of mine, being total dweebs and that, made our top 10 discs just recently, to laugh at each others selections and stuff. So here's the tracklist from that in order:
1. Led Zeppelin - Ten Years Gone
2. Nine Inch Nails - Something I Can Never Have
3. Opeth - Face Of Melinda
4. Tool - Stinkfist
5. Rage Against The Machine - Settle For Nothing
6. Smashing Pumpkins - Thru The Eyes Of Ruby
7. Pixies - Gouge Away
8. Willhaven - I've Seen My Fate
9. De La Soul - Held Down
10. A Perfect Circle - The Package

Here is my shot at it. It probably isn't fully accurate and would change as I think about it every day.
1. Down with the Sickness - Disturbed (This was such a bad ass song years and years ago yet I still do not tire of it)
2. Basket Case - Green Day (The song that got me into GD way back in elementary school)
3. Superbeast - Rob Zombie
4. Toxicity - SOAD
5. Hitchin' A Ride - Green Day
6. Dragula - Rob Zombie
7. Rape Me - Nirvana
8. Halo - Soil
9. Turn Me On Mr. Deadman - Union Underground
10. Beautiful People - Marilyn Manson
Honorable Mention - Money for Nothing - Dire Straights (sorry, I listened to this song more than any other when I was growing up in the 80s)
In all reality, that list would be mostly filled with GD since I've listened to them longer than any other band and Rob Zombie/SOAD would fill some too. I just thought I should squeeze some other bands in there as well. That is why I thought it would be hard to create my list.

I think we all agree that this list is the best ever.
In no particular order and it'll change in 5 minutes:
1) REM: Country Feedback
2) Metallica: Last Caress/Green Hell
3) Metallica: Whiplash (And this song should rightly be the national anthem of Scotland)
4) Pearl Jam: Given to fly
5) Samuel Barber: Adagio for strings
6) Manic Street Preachers: Yes
7) Manic Street Preachers: Motorcycle Emptiness
8) Glen Campbell: The Wichita Lineman (Yes, I'm being serious)
9) John Denver: Rocky Mountain High
10) Anthrax: I am the law

Eh? What's wrong with that? Is it wrong for me to like a bunch of songs because they are famous? Is it wrong that I own all the albums of these bands and these are the ones I like the best from them? WTF?
Would it be any better than intentionally naming a load of obscure songs - just to appear cool, rather than being honest? Why SHOULD I have to like obscure songs that nobody has heard of. I have tons of albums, with tons of songs I like - I can't help it if I like the songs that became singles the most. For f**ks sake.
I can't win. Take Nevermind. How many songs off that became famous singles? Damn near all of them. It ain't my fault they are famous.
As far as rock music is concerned, there's a reason as to why they are famous singles.
WTF is up with that?
