Anyone into Funk?
P-Funk in particular?
I been listening to a lot of Funkadelic and Parliament lately and I noticed that this is like a genre I was born to listen to.. if I was alive in the 60's/7o's I would've been fascinated with funk instead of hip hop, I'm sure.
Just listening to Funkadelic's music alone I can notice all sorts of influences they've had on rappers.. from Redman to Dr Dre. You can also notice direct influences from Jimi Hendrix in their guitar work. I suggest anyone who's unfamiliar with their music give it a try. It's extremely fun, intense music.
Funk classics to look out for:
Funkadelic - One Nation Under A Groove

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

Parliament - Mothership Connection

Parliament - Funkentelechy Vs. The Placebo Syndrome

Herbie Hancock - HeadHunters

Herbie Hancock - Thrust

My favorite would have to be Funkadelic's "One Nation Under A Groove."

I Don't know if you would exactly call Herbie Hancock Funk,
More Bebop/fusion.
But yea, I don't really have and Funkadellic Albums, but I like songs, and EWF is great, as usual,
Old Brass bands are sweet.

Yeah he's pretty much fusion.. but it's a fusion of funk and jazz, so I classify him with either. But usually I'd lean him more towards funk just cause his sound has the funky atmosphere than a jazzy one. Basically I classified him by his sound rather than the structure of his music..
To be honest I was wanting to try to get into Earth Wind & Fire but didn't know where to start. Same goes with James Brown. And I'd definitely reccomend you try that Funkadelic album "One Nation..." especially if you like psychedelic guitar music.
