I don't know if this has been posted before and I certainly know this isn't exactly the right forum to ask, but I was wondering if the OT would have made the same impact it did if Luke had been black.
If Luke was black, Star Wars would have been Star Wars. Only red-neck conservatives would scoff at this. (Notice "red-neck conservatives" not just "conservatives")
Even if George was able to sell the idea of having an african-american hero, I don't think that star wars would be the smash hit that it was. In a way, it would have been very innovative.
