I'm making this the officialish topic for the new Star Wars comic series from Duursema and Ostrander, set in the Star Wars Galaxy in the year 130 to 140 ABY.
There have been complaints about the storyline being highly unoriginal: reviving the Sith (that's a kicker...), the Empire rising, the Jedi being slaughtered again, a Skywalker being the last hope, and so on.
However, I think it will be interesting to see where the Star Wars Galaxy has gone one hundred years after the stuff we've read from the New Jedi Order, Dark Nest, and Legacy of the Force novels, which have led us up to 40 ABY.
So far, the Legacy 0 comic, used as an informational promotion for the series, has introduced to us the new Sith Lords, headed by the large and gruesome Darth Krayt; Jedi Master Kol Skywalker and his son, Cade; the Second Galactic Empire; the Imperial Knights; and other little tidbits and previews.
There's a theory going around that tied "Legacy" to "Legacy of the Force".
This is what I read at an ezboards forum.
According to issue #0, The Vong's shaping of planets was sabotaged... by the sith... but how would the sith know enough about Vong to do such a thing? Also, Darth Krayt looks a lot like a Yuuzhan Vong... but he is not SAID to be one, and I know that ommision proves nothing, but many other characters in this issue had their species spelled out. Additionally, it says that Krayt is ancient, and that he and the Sith have been in hiding for 100 years.. well 100 years ago is when the events of Betrayal go down with Jacen and Lumiya... and Jacen, as I'm sure many of us know, knows more about the Yuzzhan Vong than almost anybody else with the possible exception of Tahiri. Thus I conclude.. Krayt IS Jacen Solo.
Also I like what DH seems to have done, splitting the three youngest skywalker heirs (Jacen, Jaina, and Ben) into three factions. Ben obviously goes on to raise Kol Skywalker (look at the guys red hair and do the math on age.. pretty much perfect match) who then has Cade Skywalker. Ben's Legacy is the Jedi.
Jaina.. I am going to ASSUME here, hooks up with Jag Fel (who is seems becomes the first Emporer of the Fel Dynasty, again do the generational math). This explains why the current emporer Fel is a Knight and can use the Force. It also explains the Imperial Knights.. this is SOOOOO Jaina's style.. the Sword of the Jedi and all that jazz. She is all about being a good soldier and using the Force in her service, not sitting around and letting the Force guide her or seeking power of her own. I think that Jaina is the mother of the Empire and the Imperial Knights.
So we have Skywalkers at the root of the Sith, the Empire, and the Jedi if my guess is at all right. Three Skywalker heirs, Three Galactic Factions and Force Traditions.. beautifully done DH, I love it. Of course I could be way off in all my assumptions, in which case I still love it.. surprise is NICE! I have been waiting for this series for so long and have only now come back to look at the boards, I was getting way too sick of people condemning a work that they hadn't even seen yet, I hope that all the positive feedback will make up for it guys.
Interesting theory, but seems a bit too deep. Jacen was born a bit earlier, though.
Krayt is not Jacen; Jacen was in his 20's when Krayt was born.
Krayt is not Yuuzhan Vong, either; he is wearing Vong armor. Obviously Krayt understands a LOT about the Vong, to be able to wear Vong armor that would normally just kill him, as well as to sabotage the Vong efforts at terra-forming. I wonder what benefits that armor gives him, though, other than protection...hmm.
However, the Jaina theory holds more ground. The Imperial Knights I find to be VERY interesting. I don't like that they're termed Gray Jedi, but Light Side Jedi working for the Empire is very interesting indeed. Their armor is pretty stylish.
I think that the whole concept is very interesting. It has potential. I'm not going to make any judgements quite yet like many of you have... because, well... the first issue isn't even out yet! I do realize why you guys are concerned, I somewhat am too, but not too much. I'm more intrigued. I like some of the ideas that they're coming up with and I haven't been disappointed with past comic series' so I'll give this one a shot. I bought Legacy #0. Looking forward to issue one.
What do I think about the new Skywalkers? Not much, right now. After the first issue I don't think I have enough to form a valid opinion.... but based solely on first impressions, I'd say that Kor was pretty cool and his son, Cade (who will be one of the main characters) is a fairly decent character. Cade has the typical angry-teenager Skywalker syndrome. But he'll probably be grown up a little later on, so maybe he'll lose that attitude. He has potential.
And Diamondbullets, yes this is the series that takes place 100 years after.
Krayt is a man/being of vision. Despite the fact that most of his Sith are 'ME ANGRY! ME SMASH!' (Darth Nihl was a warlord before he was a Sith, FFS), he seems like he's quite an intellectual. But who knows.
Cade does indeed have Teen Skywalker Syndrome. The lightning thing was odd though.
Kol Skywalker seemed pretty cool to me. He's only referred to as a Council member, though...rather than Jedi Grandmaster, like his grandfather, Luke, was. A shame he died from Sith lightning rather than cut down in a duel, though.
Well, I think the point of the first issue was to establish that the Sith are back and in control once more. Cade was youngish at the time, the rest of the series he's in his mid-20's about.
For the most part, though, there's been another Jedi Purge. By 'lots of Jedi' it can be assumed that there aren't all that many, but quite a few have escaped. That happened with the Jedi Purge that Palpatine initiated, but all the Knights were hunted down until only Kenobi and Yoda were left, blah blah blah, other than EU Jedi, of course.
The Imperial Knights are a tad different, I would think. They weren't on the receiving end of the Purge, and they have the Imperial Armies behind them.
