When the odds are against a fighter or character, and death is all that remains for them in the moment- who stands out? What are some of the best final moments for a fighter, when they protect or give their life in a blaze of glory? What motivated them to stay behind and fight against overwhelming odds, and how did you feel about their sacrifice?

Hoth and the other 100 Jedi who sacrificed themselves on Ruusan.
Vader/Anakin sacrificing himself to save Luke from Sidious.
Chewbacca sacrificing himself to save Anakin Solo from the moon that was about to collide with the planet they were on.
Those three come to mind. There's more though.

A sacrifice and a last stand aren't really the same thing imo, though a sacrifice can lead to a last stand.
A last stand is fighting asymmetrically in a situation where defeat seems inevitable. Vader's sacrifice doesn't really qualify- he did succeed in bench-pressing Palpatine off the balcony, after-all.
Beat me to it.

Anakin Solo's last stand was nice too, but not as epic as Ganner's.
