Right, it was Anakin's suggestion actually. Well in Legends anyway.

It probably is in Canon as well. They've done nothing but wank him lately.

The guy built a podracer and protocol droid out of junk parts at the age of 9, it's not him really being an ex machina because it's established that he's a tech genius.
