I'm trying to track down a novel for my Grandma. It's about a family of rabbits, and their travels/adventures. She said that it was written for adults, not children, and it would have had to be published before the early 1970's. She doesn't know the name, nor can she remember if the book was illustrated, or who wrote it. The copy she had was a brown hardcover. The only other thing she can remember is that the main rabbit in the story got badly injured at one point.
I'm sorry there isn't much to go on, and I know it's a strange request, but if anyone has any ideas on who wrote it or what it's called, I'd be very grateful! I'd love to find this book for her. Thank you for any help!

Interestingly, Watership Down, along with The Plague Dogs and Shardik, were based in part on Adams's experiences in the far East, I believe as a prisoner.... but i could be wrong....
Thanks so much for the information guys! I'll have to see if I can get ahold of the movie version. I decided to go ahead and buy the book of Watership Down for my Grandma for Christmas as a surprise - hopefully it's the one she's looking for. Thanks again for your guys' help!
