Actually, the green flash at the end of the film may be for the new captain of the Dutchman. Why would Will get a green flash when he LEAVES the land of the living?
Besides the writers have stated that the curse is broken.
It's broken, ok? I don't know why this is so difficult to understand.
Davy Jones was expecting Tia to be waiting for him so that they could "finally be together" after he spent his ten years as captain. He wasn't expecting to remain captain for forever (though that's what he chose for himself, because he would never love another woman).
It's right there in the movie. Also, Will points out to his father that "it depends on the one day" that really matters.
You could of course choose to interperate what all this means differently; that's your right, but it seems fairly obvious to me, what with the lines from the film AND the writers backing the statement up that YES, the curse is broken.
What do the green flashes really mean? Dunno. The legend is that it's when a soul returns from the land of the dead...but then why was there a green flash when Will leaves Elizabeth on the beach? Perhaps there's more to the legend? Perhaps the green flash was meant for someone else?
Maybe it was a mistake.  The editors did muck up a bit in this film.

T&T shouldn't be surprised people are interpreting the ending differently.
Tia and Davy's reunion scene...keep in mind I've only seen it once, but I didn't get anything out of his line about her not being there. Think about it: you are gone for 10 years and the one you love said she would wait, and she's not even there. As Will said himself, it all depends on that one day. Seeing your love for one day would be worth it. That's how I think a lot of people interpreted Davy's reward. If someone like Gibbs, who knows everything, had said, "Oh, you just have to do it for 10 years and that's it," we all would have nodded our heads and moved on.
T&T, I'm glad in your canon it says Will can come home. Good. He deserves it. He needs some lovin.' But don't think people are stupid if they have questions. A green flash just means someone has returned to our realm. That doesn't mean a curse is lifted.
The editors were sloppy and there was virtually no exposition about it. How things work requires exposition. Something as big as a curse needs specific rules. Look at COTBP and the curse of the Aztec gold. Barbossa gets this great monologue that not only explains, but develops his character and fills Liz in on the details and prepares us for great special effects. As far as I know, no one asked, "Well, is X this way," "Is Y this way?" There were questions, I'm sure, there always is.
But I don't think anything generated the confusion and debate as much as this. We didn't get a monologue. We didn't get anything but a vague line from Davy Jones and a vague line from Will.

The writers/director/producer stated that all the things in DMC would be tied up in AWE...
Were they buggery!
There were a hell of alot of things that they didn't even tie up from the DMC plot.
1. HOW tia dalma brought Barboza back.
2. Erm, compasses, anyone?????
3. Sparrabeth (but im leaving this one for the sparrabeth thread so i dont vent my spleen on here).
4. Norries death - Sudden and actually uneeded.
5. Gov swanns death - Sudden and we didn't really understand WHY he had to die.
^^^ These are just a few things.
So its no wonder we can't figure out the flash, because for some reason there were many plot holes and at times the story was rather jumpy.
Now, dont get me wrong.
I'm a POTC fan until i die, and i DID like the film...but i think i walked away feeling even more confused than i did with DMC.

I think there is a difference between being confused and trying to understand why certain things had to happen.....I was more on WHY DID THAT HAVE TO HAPPEN, like Norrie's Death or Willabeth ending.
And Im sensing that the Green Flash is gonna be another Migraine-causing-mystery like the COMPASS...lol!

Stupid compass with its stupid bloody pointer, confusing the fans and making us think one thing and then the writers tell us another and then its not even explained in the last film and then sad-sack uses the compass and then everything goes to pot as usual because everything goes **** up when the whelp is involved and then he gets the girl in the end anyway so what was the point in setting up sparrabeth and building up hopes and-

Anyway;
dont get me wrong..i DID get the movie.
I loved the movie..
actually, ignore me because im still in denial lol.
And yes, it IS a big river in Egypt...
