REX's Game -- Force Powers & Anti-Dark Jedi Weaponry

The Force is your ally, and on the Dark-Side, it gives you great power! But use that power wisely, whether in combat or not, for it may consume you, and mutate you to a creature lost in the great Darkness...

To help us demonstrate these powers, the Jedi Tanlee will be modeling them, and the Dark Jedi Galder will be giving you examples of Dark-Side powers, and a bunch of flunkies will get in the way.

Force Push - Knock down and/or push (multiple) targets away from you, useful for almost anything. Example: Tanlee is being attacked by three flunkies armed with stun batons. They approach, but she extends her hand and sends them flying back. Movie Reference: Obi-Wan uses push to knock down three battle droids on the droid control ship.

Force Pull - Like the above, but knock down and/or pull targets towards you, and also disarm an opponent. Example: Tanlee sees a flunky aiming at her with a heavy repeater. She uses the Force to pull the gun from his grip and it flies to her. Movie Reference: Luke pulls his lightsaber to him out of the ice in the Wampa cave on Hoth.

Force Jump - A Force-enhanced jump that can reach new heights. The highest known Force jump by a Jedi was recorded at 40 meters in height. Example: An important flunky takes an elevator and is reaching the 4th floor of a building, with Tanlee on the 2nd. She powers up her jump and leaps to the 4th floor, catching the flunky just in time. Movie Reference: Yoda performs a series of stylish jumps when fighting Dooku; the Jedi leap platforms a few times while fighting Darth Maul.

Force Speed - Enhance the speed at which you run for short bursts of time. Example: Running at standard speed, a group of flunkies are catching up to Tanlee, and she only has a few more meters to go. Seconds before they catch up, a burst of Force speed gets her to salvation and she closes the blast door behind her. Movie Reference: Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon sprint away from the droideka's heavy blaster fire.

Force Dodge - When fired at and mutliple bolts fly towards you or you can't block the shot, use the Force to move your body at incredible speeds to dodge them. Example: Tanlee is shot at by a disruptor rifle sniper and her body blurs momentarily to avoid being fried, her body going from standing to leaning far to the right. Game Reference: Kyle Katarn sometimes automatically blurs and speeds up to avoid sniper fire in Jedi Outcast.

Absorb/Dissipate Energy - Can be used for a number of things, namely blaster bolts and Force lightning; blocks them safely and can even be used against opponents. Example: A flunky fires a shot at Tanlee with a blaster pistol, and the bolt is dead on. Not wanting to take out her lightsaber, she extends her hand and focuses, and the bolt explodes harmlessly against her palm. Movie Reference: Han Solo shoots a few shots at Vader, the Sith Lord merely extending a hand and blocking the shots.

Charged Strike - This is a strange and violent power that is not commonly used at all. Mostly used by Dark Jedi, it charges up a physical attack to give a more powerful blow from a punch, kick, or a melee weapon (axe, stun baton, etc.). Does not work with lightsaber. Example: Galder is fighting a flunky that just happens to be Wookiee, and is therefore much stronger than him. Galder pulls back his fist, and used Charged Strike, planting his fist in the Wookiee’s stomach and sending him through a wall. Movie Reference: Not used in films.

Bolt of Hatred - The Force-user creates in his hand a radiant sphere of pure hatred which he can hurl at any target within his line of sight. Example: Galder is out of ammunition, and his lightsaber throw is likely not to hit the flunky 40 yards away. He pulls back his hand, palm open, and a red sphere of utter hatred and energy forms in his hand. He releases it and hits the flunky as if using a blaster. Movie Reference: Not used in films.

Telekinesis - This power allows the Jedi to levitate and move objects with the power of his or her mind alone. If used successfully, the object moves, as the Jedi desires. Telekinesis has a wide variety of uses, the most common of which is moving items from one place to the next. Example: Tanlee needs to get her droid across a gap that she just jumped. She concentrates, and her droid soon floats through the air, following her across. Movie Reference: Luke uses telekinesis to lift rocks and try to get his ship out of the Dagobah swamps; Vader uses telekinesis to pummel Luke with machinery.

Telepathy - If the Jedi successfully projects his thoughts, the target "hears" his thoughts and "feels" his emotions. The target understands that the thoughts and feelings he is experiencing are not his own and that they belong to the user of the power. If the Jedi doesn't "verbally" identify himself, the target doesn't know who is projecting thoughts to him. This power can only be used to communicate with other minds, not control them. Example: Tanlee is held captive, and her mentor is down the street from the building she is held hostage in. She concentrates and gets a message to her mentor, “Master Jovan, this is Tanlee, I am held captive in the building nearby, free me.” Movie Reference: Luke uses telepathy to contact Leia on the Millennium Falcon when hanging over the great abyss of Bespin clouds.

These are powers that even the worst Force-users can achieve, though more experienced Force-users, such as the Jedi Force and Marauder Force templates, are supremely better at such things.

While the standard templates and weapon-based templates can pull those previous powers off with ease, there are some that they find much more difficult using. In fact, some powers may be too hard for even Force templates to use.

Rage - This power allows a Dark Jedi to feel the dread influence of the Dark Side. The Dark Jedi must tense himself completely, and allow the mindless rage of the Dark Side to possess him. When using this power, a Dark Jedi will appear lifeless. They are amplifying the negative aspects of their own personality, leaving the face clenched in a rictus of horror and fear. It also allows the Dark Jedi to kill faster and hit stronger. Example: Flunkies are closing in on Galder, and he has no weapons. His face contorts as he stands for a moment, letting the Dark-Side fill him. He begins the fight...and a few minutes later stands victorious. Game Reference: Jaden uses Rage as one of his powers in Jedi Academy, and allows him to kill enemies faster.

Prediction - Meditate and see images from a possible future. Depending on the Force-user, the images my be more obscured, or not even from the future, but the past or present. Example: Tanlee meditates quietly and predicts a possible future of her master’s unnatural death. Movie Reference: Luke predicts that his friends will be on Bespin and face torture and pain when studying the Force with Yoda.

Dark-Side Web - When successfully initiated, this power summons strands of Dark-Side power that wrap around the Force-user’s target, ensnaring him in a mesh of brilliance. The lattice of energy severs the connection between the Force and the trapped individual and saps the strength from his body. Example: Galder is fighting Tanlee, and manages to flip her. Wanting to take her alive without any more trouble, he summons a Dark-Side web and ensnares Tanlee in midair. She is wrapped and shocked into incapacitation by the web. Movie Reference: Not used in films.

Strengthen Object - This power strengthens and reinforces the structure of an object. Some Jedi have discovered that is can also be used to weaken objects in a similar manner. Using the Force, the Jedi reinforces the inter and intermolecular bonds in the object through amplification of the strong and weak nuclear forces. The object has the same density (more or less), volume, and mass as before, but it takes more energy to break the bonds holding the object together. Example: Tanlee is being followed by an AT-ST. She takes cover behind a tree, but the AT-ST’s concussion grenade launcher shatters the tree. Tanlee moves to another tree and puts her hand against the tree, strengthening the tree with the Force. The AT-ST fires it’s concussion grenade launcher at the tree again, but to no effect, the explosion doing the thick tree as much damage as a blaster rifle would. Comic Reference: Exar Kun fights his mentor with a lightstaff, and Vodo Baas fights back, but only with a staff that he has used Strengthen Object on.

Warp Matter - This power allows the Jedi to mould a volume of matter to a new shape. The Jedi must be able to touch some part of the object to be molded. It is easy to use on liquid matter and malleable matter, but much more difficult to use against rock and metal, even more so gases. Example: Since Tanlee is not powerful enough to pull this off, she has her mentor, Master Jovan, do it for her. There is a blast door in the way, and igniting their lightsabers would alert the pirates on the ship. Jovan puts his hand against the door and eventually turns the door into liquid metal. Movie Reference: While we don’t know if this was used or not, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan could have used Warp Matter to turn the poisonous, oxygen-depriving dioxin gas into breathable air.

Projected Fighting - Projected fighting allows a Jedi to strike at an opponent, inflicting damage without physically touching the target. Use of this power is more than a little risky; in many cases projected fighting is quite simply using the Force to attack. Target must be in line of sight. Example: Galder has run out of ammunition and his lightsabers have been taken from him. A Gamorrean with a large vibro-axe moves to confront him, moving into Galder’s line of sight. Galder throws a punch into the air, and the Gamorrean clutches his snout in pain. Movie Reference: Not used in films.

Conduit - This power enables a force user to convert force energy into some other form of energy. This enables the user to fire a blaster or wield a lightsaber which has a dead power pack. Of course if an item is over powered, it could burn out or even explode, under power the item and it may fail to function efficiently. Use of this power becomes more difficult depending on the item being charged. Example: Galder’s lightsaber runs out of energy, but he manages to keep it functioning. If he overpowers it accidentally, and it explodes in his hands. If he under powers it, then it might short out when he’s blocking a blow. Movie Reference: Not used in films.

Force Scream - The Dark-Side of the Force is seductive, offering tremendous power to lure the weak-willed into its grip. Fear, anger, and jealousy are the ties that bind the servants of the Dark-Side, and by tapping into such emotions, the Dark Jedi are capable of unleashing untold devastation. The power to destroy, however, does little to improve control of these abilities. Dark Jedi who have become angered sometimes lose control of their emotions. This can trigger shock waves that ripple through the Force, devastating both the Dark Jedi and those who are unfortunate enough to be in close proximity. The “Force Scream”, as it is called, has been called “a wave of hatred, amplified and fuelled by the dark side, that is capable of smashing through mental and physical defenses with ease”. A number of references to Dark Jedi in Old Republic archives often mention the Dark Jedi losing control, violently, in the final moments of battle. Example: Galder is struck down in combat, but is still alive. Gathering his emotions and utter hatred of Tanlee and the Jedi, he unleashes an explosion of emotions and cripples Tanlee’s mind, nearly killing her, and sealing his own fate. Movie Reference: Not used in films.

Sith knowledge is beyond your powers, for now, but usually prove to be the most devastating. Darth Imperius will show off his skills.

Force Storm - This is perhaps the single most destructive Force power known. This power allows the Jedi to twist the space-time continuum to create vast storms of force. The power also allows limited control of these storms. Capable of creating annihilating vortices, the storms can swallow whole fleets of spaceships or tear the surfaces of worlds. Example: Darth Imperius summons a Force Storm to destroy a group of ground troops of the opposing Jedi forces. The intense winds and large hail incapacitate or kill them, the lightning striking them dead. Comic Reference: Emperor Palpatine summons a Force Storm to destroy Luke Skywalker, but the uncontrollable storm merely destroys his current body and his flagship, an immense Eclipse-class Star Destroyer.

Force Shield - Gather the Force around you to deflect energy attacks and block physical attacks, and inflict damage when you push the shield outward. Example: Darth Imperius is surrounded and he cannot possibly deflect every bolt with his lightsaber. They open fire, and he uses the Force Shield. The bolts stop dead a few feet away from him. The flunkies stop to reload, but Imperius releases the Shield and the bolts fly back, killing the flunkies closest. Movie Reference: Not used in films.

Force Lightning - This power is a corruption of the Force, harnessing pure hatred and evil from the user and the Dark-Side. When used, it produces bolts of white or blue energy which fly from the user's fingertips like sorcerous lightning. These bolts tear through their target, causing intense pain and injury. If the target can use the Force or has a lightsaber, it can block it with Absorb/Dissipate Energy or with the lightsaber blade. Example: Darth Imperius extends a hand and starts killing his target with the Force Lightning, tormenting him to an extreme. Movie Reference: Emperor Palpatine uses Lightning to attempt killing Luke on the second Death Star; Dooku uses it to incapacitate Anakin while fighting Obi-Wan.

Force Wind - This power allows the Sith to manipulate and channel air currents to form powerful and destructive tornadoes which can lift people bodily up into the air and fling them about. Example: Darth Imperius is fighting two Jedi Masters, and summons a Force Wind. The cyclone picks up the Jedi Masters and flings them into a wall. Movie Reference: Not used in films.

Anti-Jedi Weaponry

There are always annoyances that you face when you confront Jedi, or when bounty hunters keen on getting a kill or a capture confront you. There are weapons that are useful against Jedi, but, then again, they are very useful against you as well...

Kinetic weaponry - Kinetic weapons are a type of guns that do not use blaster bolts, but another form of energy instead. Stun setting feels like getting hit by a large rock, kill setting feels like being hit with a crowbar. They have very low killing power, but are useful in crippling. Cannot by blocked by lightsabers either.

Cortosis - Cortosis can be a right pain. In the form of armor, it takes a powerful blow to strike down just one opponent. In the form of bullets, you cannot block them.

Flechette Launchers - Flechette launchers can also be pains. They fire “clouds” of sharp metal, almost like a shotgun, and you cannot possibly block those with your lightsaber.

Grenades - Sure, you can use the Force to push grenades away, but stun grenades, frag grenades, Cryoban grenades and thermal detonators can be a problem. Detonators have a massive explosion, frag grenades shoot out sharp metal, stun grenades can knock you out, and Cryoban grenades can encase you in solid ice.

Flamethrowers - Fire cannot be blocked by lightsabers, and it is difficult to alter its path with the Force. That is one reason flamethrowers can be such a pain.

Slugthrowers - Called slugthrowers due to the fact that bullets are slower than lasers, they cannot be deflected.

Magna-caster - Magna-casters are basically slugthrowers that fire bullets at intense speeds, thanks to magnetic technology.
