REVENGE Post Scripts- Analysis

Here is the analysis of ‘Revenge’.

The game is a draw, which may surprise many who thought it was a certain Light-Side loss.

Both sides had an ‘ultimate’ option which would have given them victory unless the other side got their ultimate as well. The ultimate option was VERY hard! For the Light Siders, it was saving Argentis. For the Dark Siders, it was getting at least half the gold for themselves and shutting down the bounty call on them. Neither objective was achieved. Kuylen killed Argentis (if there were more DS people playing one of them would probably have done it), Shareth got all the gold and the bounty still stands.

However, there were other criteria. The Jedi are judged on how well they handled this VERY nasty situation without making the war on Damagran worse! This was very important for the Jedi. The Republic and the Jedi Order were determined to bring peace to Damagran but this would be impossible if the Jedi blatantly intervened on either side (presumably Verlaine’s). The Jedi came close to doing this on several counts- promising aid to Verlaine, trying to forcibly arrest Faylar and in planning to destroy the shield generators in the city. But Gundark kept her team under control in both of the first two counts, and the third seemed to get forgotten, much to my surprise. The generators were in the palace, and destroying them would have caused a loyalist invasion that would have massively reduced the amount of druids in the finale- but also would have been direct intervention! Sadly, the Jedi did not rescue Faylar but seeing how the game was going that would have been very hard indeed. In fact, from the moment Edna blew their position in the palace they were in trouble there. Helping Faylar would have aided the Republic in bringing peace, saving his life would have definitely done so, and he may even have turned himself over for trial. But as it is, the Jedi survived with no casualties other than the suicidal Argentis, yerssot was rescued and the team got out in one piece having established a good rapport with Verlaine.

The Dark Siders were judged upon how many targets they eliminated. Varsh’s capture team, Krisha and Faylar all died. Several remain, most noticeably Balek. No attempt was made to actually deal with the Light Siders- this is not a disaster, but it was worth extra points. The Dark Siders did well in dealing with Shareth the Hutt to escape, but had to give her all the gold to do so.

Rex has the honour of revenging himself against Lance but then got a sharp lesson from Balek! Queeq beat everyone else to killing Krisha, but wasn’t able to sleep with Gundy, as is his plan. Many congrats to Gundy who held things together, under the pressure of being a Master, under difficult circumstances. All things considered, I think everyone did pretty well.

As both sides achieved fairly well, I thought it only fair to call it a draw.

REVENGe Post Scripts- Story re-cap

Here is the story summary of ‘Revenge’. It is greatly abbreviated!

After the events of the first game (Avalar), the 13 worlds of the Damagran Confederacy had left the Republic after the main world of Damagran voted in a new leader, Faylar. Faylar’s persuasive brand of patriotism and anti-alien sentiment, building on the failures of the Republic, led to his sweep to victory. Persistent rumours of his illegal activities and involvement with Dark Side terrorists, however, led to opposition. The normally staid Republic acted, on the orders of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, launching a full investigation into his activities and blockading the main world. A civil war starts on Damagran as the loyalist fight the separatists. Faylar captures the city of K’rra Chi but there he is trapped. He locks himself in the central palace there and awaits reinforcements in the form of a droid army he is buying from the Hutts- Shareth the Hutt has ‘acquired’ a large portion of the droid army used in The Phantom Menace, which should have been de-commissioned but slipped through the system.
In the first game, Faylar was working with the Dark Jedi Kuylen and his gang of followers. Kuylen is following an agenda of plundering old Sit sites in order to steal their forgotten power, an agenda the Jedi wish to stop. Kuylen needed Faylar’s help to access the mythical Sith Archive at Avalar, but Faylar betrayed Kuylen and the other Dark Siders, giving the Jedi the opportunity to stop the Dark Siders before they recovered much (for more details, read the summary of the original game)
This betrayal had to be re-paid in full. With Kuylen away, investigating rumours that a Sith had been spotted on the planets of Tatooine and Naboo, his followers venture to Damagran to kill Faylar by any means possible, simply crashing their ship through the blockade and ejecting to land in the forest. They will enter K’rra Chi, kill Faylar and organise some form of escape. They still have with them captured Jedi yerssot.
Back on Coruscant, Kuylen’s former padawan Argentis has taken news of the re-appearance of his old tutor, now evil, rather badly. He runs to Damagran vowing to stop Kuylen as it is his responsibility. The Light Side players are sent to stop him and rescue him, with a sideline of apprehending Kuylen if possible, but a warning NOT to involve themselves in the war, which is not Republican business any more- even though it is the pro-Republicans that will allow them access to the world. The Light Side does not know that Kuylen is not even there.
On arrival at Damagran, the Jedi fend off an assassination attempt on the pro-Republican leader, Verlaine. A commando team gets the Jedi up to the shielded walls of K’rra Chi and they make entrance, The Dark Siders, hunted by flyers hunting for them and beset by large monsters in the jungle, eventually make it to the city and sneak in through the water reclamation system.
The Jedi find a city where the populace have been warned that Jedi will come to subvert them all; the populace is cold and unfriendly. The Dark Siders soon discover that Faylar has put a vast bounty on their heads and that nearly everyone with a gun in the city will try to take a shot at them. Both sides discover that the Palace, their target, is sealed. Argentis is inside, Faylar is inside… both sides need a way in!
Shareth the Hutt arrives soon afterwards. For the Jedi, this is an opportunity to see how Faylar is getting his reinforcements in the form of droids. By hiding in the droid crates some of them gain entrance to the Palace. It is also clear that Shareth is cunning and clever and has broken no laws in what she has done; she reckons Faylar will be dead soon and just wants money while she can get it. And this she does, when the Dark Siders agree to steal all of Faylar’s gold and give it to her in return for transport off the planet when their job is done.
Both sides meet Balek, double-hard bounty hunter who hates the Jedi and is after the bounty on the Dark Siders. Old enemy of both sides, one time member of the Dark Side them, Krisha is also there. Krisha ‘rescues’ yerssot from the Dark Siders and takes him to Faylar, who offers him a job. He refuses.
Dark Sider Edna befriends Argentis, who lets her into the palace as he is posing as a member of Faylar’s bodyguard as he waits for Kuylen to arrive. Shareth gets Galder in as one of her bodyguard. The Jedi who got access to the Palace are soon caught as Edna betrays their position, but as they agree to negotiate with Faylar, the others are let in for the discussions. Quam sneaks in through the garbage systems, is soon hunted by Krisha and kills her in a duel. Galder secures the gold, but Faylar needs to be dealt with and the droid army de-activated before the Dark Siders can make their escape. The Light Siders plea with Argentis for sanity, and discover he has given Faylar the security codes that allowed Shareth to breech the blockade and get this army here that may doom this world. Argentis comes to his senses somewhat, but is still obsessed with Kuylen.
The final battle has all sides meeting at the top of the palace with thousands of droids all around, the Dark Siders trying to kill Faylar, the Light Siders to stop them, and save Argentis, who had found Kuylen, who has by now arrived. But the fight is hard on the Light Siders who are nearly all wounded or inconvenienced by the overwhelming enemies. Old enemies Lance Windu and Galder meet and duel; Lance is defeated but not killed only for Galder to be badly wounded in turn when Balek takes his shot at him. Galder flees.
Quam and Chion, Kuylen’s right hand man and giant alien thug, track and kill Faylar before the Dark Siders make good their escape- but without the gold they risked so much to get, as Shareth gets it all. The Light Siders can only watch as Kuylen, who has been toying with Argentis all battle, kills him causally once the battle is done and makes his escape. The Dark Siders, hunted by the Jedi and paranoid about the possibility of other enemies, scatter and flee into the Galaxy. The Light Siders return, with peace negotiations starting on Damagran, where they are told that pursuing Kuylen has proven to be so dangerous, that their mission is being halted. For now, it seems, events are over.

REVENGE Post Scripts- Advancment

Between each game, players have an opportunity to advance the power of their characters. By this method you can eventually become as competent as the legendary heroes we see in the films! But it’s a slow path

Basically each of you can chose one area in which you wish to advance. There are three areas to chose from:

1. General skills. Do not underestimate the importance of being good at ‘mundane’ tasks! Adventurers, Ronins and Fallens all benefit from being good pilots, saboteurs, technicians, computer operators, and so on. Masters also have a broad range of skills; the fighter templates (Swordsman, Corsair, Freelancer) much less so, and Force-based templates like the Acolyte and Orphan have almost none at all.

2. Combat ability. Your ability to handle a sabre is not the only part of being a great warrior (though when it comes to duels, it is all that counts). The fighter templates benefit from a range of skills that make them superior in general combat situations, while the force-based templates need constant protection if they are in the middle of a war. If you want to be more of a warrior, this is the area in which to advance. I repeat, this does not make you a better duellist.

3. Force ability. Only a fool would totally neglect his skill in manipulating the Force. Masters and the force templates (Acolyte, Orphan, Revenant) have a considerable advantage over the other templates when it comes to using powers. Adventurers and their type are perfectly competent with the force; the fighter templates lack the focus required to be great with it and if they NEVER advance in the Force they will never become truly great Jedi.

Please each of you chose one of these areas in which to become better in. You don’t have to decide right now, but preferably before it becomes important in the story.

Incidentally, some things can never be replicated by experience in this way- like the Warrior Instincts of the Swordsman and Corsair, and the huge force power (from high midi-chlorian count, or tie to the Force, or whatever) of the Acolyte and Orphan.

Please note that right now I am suspending advancement in duelling power until I think of a decent way to make it work. I’ll get back to you.

Cutscene for REVENGE- All REVENGE players please read!

This is a sequence of events that has occurred in the story line that I want all players to be aware of. But your characters do not know it has happened! I provide it to answer some questions that have been raised over time, and to pique curiousity.

-

The Senate roars its approval as the Chancellor speaks.

“And I can report, with great happiness, that after negotiations, Damagran has agreed to begin the process of re-integration into the Republic!” More cheers. Palpatine smiles benignly at all around him. “And so we can bring to a close this unfortunate episode in our recent history. I am only glad that the Senate has acted more decisively here than it did with the Naboo crisis!"

There are murmurs of approval.

“Of course, we would be foolish to ignore the legitimate grievances that many worlds have with the current state of the Republic. If we do not act soon to eliminate corruption and improve service, other worlds may follow where it seemed Damagran would lead. We can count ourselves fortunate that this possibility may have been averted, but we must not blind ourselves to the possibilities.”

More murmurs.

“But for now, we may rejoice! This bloody war is over, and the people are thankful!”

Palpatine returns from the speaking position to more cheers, and withdraws from the Senate.

A furtive being has been watching the proceedings, and now he leaves the area, and heads far underground of the city to a remote communications terminal. He makes a call, but has to wait for his answer. A hologram of a figure in a dark cloak shimmers into being in front of him.

“Lord Sidious…the debate is over. Damagran’s application to re-join the Republic has been approved. But there has been no mention made of Kuylen! He has disappeared.”

“Yes, I know. What of it?”

“If Kuylen has left Damagran then we have no idea where he is! We have no clues at all!”

“It is not of concern.”

“But Kuylen must be stopped! If he reaches his target…”

“He will NOT reach it,” says Sidious, firmly.

“Will you send your agent to stop him?”

“My agent is… unavailable.” The man looks uncomfortable.

“Is it true? Was the man Kenobi killed on Naboo your agent?”

“Do not concern yourself with such things! The Jedi will stop Kuylen.” The man shakes his head vigorously.

“No no! They will not! I have word from the Council. They have cancelled the mission to find him!” But Sidious just laughs, long and hard…

“Pitiful fool. The Jedi are crass and blind. I will ensure that they find and stop Kuylen.”

“But how? Even they do not know where he is! No-one does! He is impossible to find!” Sidious laughs again

“Not for a Sith…” The image fades.

-

You may comment if you wish.

I thought Palpatine and Sidious were the same person. Over all, cool speech.

They ARE the same person; that's why Sidious' agent had to wait before he made contact.

Is it possible that Rex is thinking he wants to teach Balek a sharp lesson? So noted for yerss, and Mah now becomes the most skilled character in the game.
