Jump Roping

I know this isn't a real sport but:

Whether you call it Skipping, Rope Skipping, Jump Roping or Rope Jumping...it is the best activity to help fight Heart Disease, Obesity, Type II Diabetes, and Osteoporosis while improving strength and fitness.

Trainers and coaches alike have used jump roping to condition athletes for years. Most of us haven't thought about a jump rope since grade school, but times are changing and healthy people are beginning to 'rediscover' the jump rope.

I myself rediscovered one today. I saw a cheap little jump rope in the kids room, and decided to show them how to use it. I got going and automatically my heart was pumping and I was breathing hard. It is really a simple workout and you can have fun doing it. I haven't jumped rope in many years, so I am still rusty. Maybe I'll do about 10-20 minutes of it a day, to help keep me healthy, and burn away calories. Especially since I am overweight and I am trying to lose the pounds and become more physically fit.

Does anyone else here use this simple thing to train for their own sports? I know that Boxer's especially use these.

If you don't have anything useful to say, then don't bother posting. That's just wasting a post count.

Amen brother. I just started working out with a jump rope last month. I understand why a lot of people don't use the rope so much today.

When you start it is frustrating and you will look like a weirdo until you get better at it. Kinda hard to jump rope in most rooms.

It's fun once you are good at it. Use the rope with a High Intensity Interval Training program 3 times a week and you will drop some pounds for sure.

The HIIT program I use is:

4mins at 50% intensity
20sec at 100%
10sec at 50%

repeat the 20 sec/10 sec thing 7 more times

4mins at 50% to end
