[sarcasm]This is just another of Selig's brilliant ideas [/sarcasm]
It really doesn't matter who gets home field advantage. The better team wins the WS with or without home-field advantage. It all started last year around spring training. I absolutely have no idea how Selig grew this idea in his head, but it certainly is pretty dumb.
btw-I'm a huge critic of Commisioner Selig, so just don't listen to me. 😉
Not neccessarily Winddancer, sometime home field advantage in the world series is HUGE!! Like both times the MINNESOTA TWINS won the world series in 87 against the cardinals and 91 against the braves, they lost all their road games against the cardinals and braves in those series but won the world series because they had homefield advantage both times and won all their games in minnesota. Same with the arizona diamondbacks.Home field advantage was a key in them winning the world series against the yankees.
They also lost all their games on the road I believe but won all theri games at home.Home field advanatge was huge in them winning the world series,no way would they have won the final two games if it had been at yankee stadium, they totally chocked on the road against the yankees and played so much better at home.thats the major reason I am so much against it is the yankees are going to get it all the time and you may have teams like the marlins who had some magic with them last year in winning the world series, but with teams like the diamond backs, home field advantage means everything in the world series.damn commissioner selig for this. 😠
Selig bites.
But I actually do like this rule simply because it does give the players some motivation.
Watching the 2002 World Series was hard. I wasn't thrilled about it going to 7 games, and game 7 went like, what 11 innings or something? Not exactly a convincing victory for the D-Backs. I just felt that each team didn't play the first few games at the level they should have, and Arizona was just more fortunate to be at home.
Selig has done some pretty effin' stupid things as comissioner, but I don't think this counts as one of them.
When I was a kid, it was just pretty much a given that the NL would win the All-Star game, and now, the AL is really becoming formidable. It was like the Superbowl--you just were 99% sure that the NFC champ was gonna pound the living hell outta the AFC. Now, it's anybody's game.
