So. I was thinking about this for a while, and figured I'd make the thread to gauge interest.
I'd like to organize a chess tourney for KMC. Nothing fancy. Maybe get 8 or 16 players (depending on interest). Then find a free site to play on (I've linked a couple below). Set up brackets, play, etc.
There wouldn't be time limits on how soon matches need to be played. If one person got matched with another, you could confer together, find a day and time that works, and play....the tournament would be open-ended, and could take some time. Nothing high-pressure...very relaxed pace.
We'd be under an honor system not to use chess programs to aid us. But I'd hate to think someone would want to enter and set up matches, only to have Chessmaster 8000 win him the tourney. To me that would just be boring and pointless.
Anyway, links are below. If you know of a better free public site, let me know.
I'd enter but my time-zone might cause clashes.Could we get a confirmation of everyone's because it might be difficult for some-one on the West Cost to play some-one in england.
That's why we have the "no time limit" thing. Given, say, a month to work with, I'm sure you'd be able to work something out. And hell, Scoobless is in Scotland...we'll have these sorts of problems regardless, but we'll work around them.
Cool. Also, I agree that Yahoo games works well....but it might limit some because you need an account. But each pairing can work it out individually.
I think between this and the OTF thread we have 8. Unless there's loads of interest and we can make it to 16, I'll make up a random bracket and people can start trying to plan their round 1 matches.
Again, there won't be a time limit on match-length (within reason). So you can set a time with your opponent and the tourney will move along at a relaxed pace.
Don't worry....this will be the most relaxed tourney KMC's ever seen. You'll have time to work out your matches with whoever you draw. And right now I'm waiting to see if we can get 16...
