Sports Records that will NEVER fall
just a couple to start things off:
1. dimaggio's 56 game hit streak
2. cy young's win record (500 something . . .)
3. i don't think anyone will hit .400 again, so whatever the highest batting avg is i don't think will be broken . . .
John Wooden's NCAA championships
Petty's (I think?) career racing wins
Gretzky's total points for a career (actually a bunch of his stats will likely never be broken)
Something to note: after DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak ended, he started another (guessing here, like) 27 game hitting streak, thus making him hit safely in like 81 of 82 games. Sick.
Ironically, Ted Williams hit 400 the same year as DiMaggio's hitting streak, and didn't even win the MVP?! ....if my memory is correct. However, I believe someone will hit 400 again.
Collectively, they have an unbreakable record as well. That is, until this upcoming season when they all plan to gang-bang Carson Palmer after they go 4-12.

thanks.
i'd forgotten williams and dimaggio's feats were the same year! hell of a year. don't think i knew dimaggio's record carried over though to the next year. that IS wild.
anywho, the reason i don't see anyone hitting 400 again is basically the specialty pitchers that are around now. previous 400 hitters could see the same pitcher 4 and 5 times/game. they rarely see anyone more than 3 times now. bullpen guys often have dramatically different styles then starters, they are fresh (back then you could face a tired pitcher late in the game) and guys are throwing 95-100 with some frequency in the closing spots. not to mention the increased scrutiny from the media and the enormous pressure that would add.
like i said, i don't see it happening again in my lifetime, but if someone DOES do it, it would be an absolutely astounding feat.
As much as I would like to name my cousin, he likes to remain anonymous for various, neurotic reasons, which I will respect. His is one their draft picks this year. ....narrows it down to 7 guys I think.

that would be very unlikely too, imo. guys are always given rest, now-a-days, it seems. strange how the athletes get bigger and stronger all the time, but they seem to require more rest and play through less injuries. or is that just my imagination . . .?
