What? Who are these guys? Pavlik v. Taylor reinvented the middleweight division and was a sweet fight. If anything, the fight of the year has already happened. If these are two of the pretenders to the now-worthless heavyweight belt (actually there's multiple belts currently, making most of them pointless) then this isn't even a good fight, let alone the best in years.
I know who they are. I wouldn't have offered a dissenting opinion otherwise....though I did forget what weight class the fight was in. But Calzaghe's getting kinda old, and I still fail to see how it's bigger than the recent middleweight title bout I mentioned.
couldn't agree more...while it would be good if he reached 25 successful defences (the most ever) i dont think he has another 4 fights in him...he's been constantly plauged by his dodgy hand over the last 6 fights...and while he seems to fight well against the better fighters...he struggles against lesser fighters
i'm not entirely sure about him stepping up to light heavy for a fight against hopkins either...i think that might be a bad idea
I get confused (and disenchanted) because of all the different belts floating around. Pavlik beat Taylor for the middleweight title, but this is a different one. Next he'll fight the middleweight belt-holder from Ireland or some sh*t. Too many divisions and pseudo-champions.
well i can see your point about the number of boxing organisations and belts...but calzaghe is WBO, WBA AND WBC undisputed champion...the 1st and only undisputed champion of the super-middleweight division...he's also been IBF super-middleweight champ aswell
