I love Poker. Particularly Texas Hold 'em.

Poker's a part of my everyday life. I love playing online and live.

One day i hope to hit Foxwoods since it's the closest Casino to Mass but next year we'll have 3 casinos in the state and one in Boston where i live so i can't wait for that.

I just purchased The World Series of Poker 2008 for the xbox 360.

Last week i recieved in the mail season 2 of the World Poker Tour and watched like 4hours of it straight. I was supose to go to a game my brother in-law was holding this past weekend but not enough people showed up, it was sadddening.

But yea, hopefully i can become a poker pro. I practice alot online and at home. One could make a great living in ti but you'll loose your shirt if you don;t know what your doing. You can't be greedy and you must have a lot of patience.

I statred playing new years eve 2005 and straight into 2006 and haven't stopped since.

I'm Napier77 at PokerStars.com And Rawk77 on Full Tilt.

Poker is a intellectual game, to outwit and deceive, as well as fool them into thinking you could lose, I believe it can be considered Sport, after all another great game, Chess is classed as sport.

i love it, but i hate the all inners. all they do is go all in in the hope of catching a break. play the game!!! i can understand if they have a great hand, but why otherwise? trying to bluff on everyhand is ridiculous.

i'm not looking to go pro or anything, but i'd like to try entering a little tourney sometime for real money.

Poker's nowhere near as strategic as chess, and they involve two completely different skill sets. One is tactical and spatial logic. The other is the ability to read people. Both involve some memorization (opening strategy for chess and percentages for hands in poker) but the similarities end there.

I dislike poker, despite having played a fair amount in the past. Too much luck involved, at everything from basement games to the highest levels. It can be exciting, but there's only so far you can play the percentages...because no one at an amateur level is adept at reading other players with any regularity, and "good" play that follows statistical logic is punished nearly as often as it is rewarded.

The internet and casino craze revolves around the excitement of the game, which can be incredible, and the "anyone can win" mentality...but not because it's a legit sport.

Well some people aren't there to play the game for fun. Some use it to make money that's if you're playing a cash game. (and you'll be surprised at how many people still play for fun when it comes to real money.)

But the all inners are mostly "tight" players and they never bluff, if so it's 1% of the time. And practically .01% of the time if their stack starts getting low and then usually go all in when in desperation mode with hardly any chips.. They only play top cards and when the do get them they play aggressively by "going all-in" It's a common strategy used by their likes. They can be easily conquered though.

You can enter a tournament online any time you want. just look for the games. I always enter cash tournaments. Where every player register at "1 table" and all equally throw down money with the total going towards a 1st 2nd and 3rd place prize pool.

They structure the money so that if you finish in 3rd place you double your money. 2nd place you more than double it and 1st place is 3 times what you entered with. And it takes about 40 a game with 10 people. There're also multi-table tourney's, World Poker Tour tourney's and ultimately the World Series of Poker tourney's (the grandaddy).

Good stuff. I only play no limit Texas Hold 'em. The Cadillac of Poker, as they say. it's the riskiest of all the games but the most rewarding, if you know what you're doing. See me, i plan on going pro one day soon. I want to practice a bit more and at least hit a casino before i go pro.

i do know how to play poker, and a lot o people on there go all in with cards such as 63 off suit etc. it really isnt warranted! i can understand if you have A5 or K9, but that isnt exactly playing tight either. they'll come tino the room and go all in straight away with a crap hand looking to get lucky. if they dont they go elsewhere. kinda gets on your nerves after the fiftieth time.

but yeah, texas hold em no limits is the best by far. played some tournys on there, but in the practice section. i really wanna try playing for real money one day though, just gotta convince the wife lol

Actually, those are the types of player you want to play against while being careful. They're called "loose" players. The play wildly and go all in with like 7-2 "poker worst possible hand" But they're the most dangerous only cause they're so unpredictable cause of inexperience and they could get lucky on the flop. You should never bluff them. They'll call you so fast it'll make you head spin.

And one should, at most, consider playing A-5 or K-9 "on the button" or in the last position, (poker's best possible position) cause those aren't strong cards at all. I would only play those cards if i have a considerable chip lead and if and when "on the button". I'd most likely fold it if there were alot of people on the table no matter the position and chip lead.

where else would this go? some people consider it a sport, some dont.

i dont play those hands unless i limp in with them and the blinds are cheap. you do need to be so patient playing this game, and quite in control of yourself.

i quickly learned not to bluff those people, i learn quick thank god! won two tourneys last night, pretty proud of myself. one was a 20 person tourney and teh other was a 50 person tourney. still not real money!

I consider it a sport. And a very competitive one at that. They have a world series, trophies, endorsements, standings, tournaments, circuits, lots of cash is involved.

I mean the term professional poker playing gives it away, i think.

isnīt there a lot of luck involved, unlike chess which IS pure skill.

That's what you think. More skill is required.

It's funny because the ones whom think that Poker involves alot of luck are usually the ones whom lose the most games. If there was alot luck involved then why do the same 10-20 people make always make it to the world series of poker out of 800 people? You can't be lucky all the time.

Poker is a psychological game about people, not cards. People play the cards and/or use percentages and that's a strategic way to go about it and not the best, imo. My tactic is using the "tells" people use or offer both consciously and subconsciously. You can even read people online just by paying close attention to their play style. It can be rigorous but It pays off handsomely at the end when full concentration is given to an opposing subject.

The only time luck's involved is when the cards flip. Everything else is intellect and under your control.

I love it.

absolutely. when i start at a table, i normally dont play any of te hfirst 5-10 hands unless i've got something real good, just to see how everyone else plays. dont get too involved and see how people react to a raise and such. its amazing how much you can learn as you state.

Played in a 20player 1table Poker Stars tounament last night just for kicks and came in second place. Won $42. Took 40 mins. The entrance fee was 16.50.

The 1st place winner won 62 bucks. She took me and 3rd place out in one play. She lol'd. We all went all in (A-J-s) and the poker gods smiled on her at that moment.

it was kinda funny, i guess.

That is the type of luck I get when I go all in. I would have the lead till the river then I lose.

I meant i had A-J suited...

But you'll find out if you always go all with mostly the strongest cards, numerically you'll see that you'll end up winning more heads up moments like that, than losing.

Look at it in the long term, terms..
