What makes you love Anime/Manga

So as the topic says, I am intresed in knowing what thing make everyone love Anime/Manga. What draws you to it.. what makes you want more.

As for me well I have always been into Anime/Manga. I can remeber when i was about 10 years old and woke up at like 6am one morning and turned on the T.V. and saw Dragon Ball (then original dragon ball when Goku was a kid) for the first time.. after i saw that i woke up every morning to watch it and over the years my fasination with Anime just grew and grew, I am a big Japanese history buff, and i love all things Japanese.

I love anime because there is an escape for me in it.. I don;t just watch anime or read manga i put myself in it, and make it so that if i were a part of the story.. I love the detail the beauty and grace of it all.. I love that the love stories are just perfect and the action stories just blow you away.. I love that things can be done in Anime/Manga that could not be done in real life.. to have god like powers and they way they bring it out of the characters, the comedy. everything there is a million and one reasons why Anime/Manga is great for me.. I fell in love with it along time ago. I have collected over 86 different anime series for a total of more then 350 DVDs none of which are burns or copies, and i will continue to buy more and more.. I am a weekly regular at my local movie store.. So anyway i am courious to hear what made everyone else fall in love with it too..

I agree,it is my reality excape. Why waste your life fawning over actors or obsessing about your real life pains when every time you think your about to loose it,you can travel anywhere you want into the world of anime/manga.I am a foolish dreamer of course, and anime has helped me shape my ideals for the future...as well as encouraged me to keep dreaming.Anime was what gave me my closest friends, taught me to become the best person I could be,and made me a hell of a lot less boring.Pathetic yes,but if it wern't for anime/manga,I would be an average teenage girl obsessed with fitting in and getting boyfriends...what a sad life that would be!

i think you guys have already pretty much summed up my explination. anime/manga is just another way for me to be able to dream. ANYTHING you want to become real, CAN; thats one of the major reasons i love anime. another amazing thing that anime/manga does amazinglly well at, is the character('s) story/design/etc. it is truely outstanding at how these people can create these shows and make a new way of living for ppl (fans). i always say this, but the creators really do an excelent job of making the fans either fall in love with the characters or have the fans totally understand them perfectlly. they make you want to get to know more about them and their life (i think they want us to become obbsessed or something....*i think its working though, lol*). anime/manga has even helped me out in 'real' life! it has made my interest in learning new languages (i even know a lot of japanese words now) and it has made me want to become a 'voice over' (i even know a lot of the voice overer's works; such as david blum=spike spiegel*fav* crispin freeman=amon *fav* jonny bashnic(sp)=kiba*another fav*). there is a lot more that i can add to this post, but ill end it for now.

Yes that too.Americans have this entertainment and social issue. We must censor everything. For example; because it has homosexuallity and it will currup our children's minds..."OMG THE HORROR IT IS FOR CHILDREN TO BECOME TOLERANT OF OTHER IDEAS"!Face it guys, the Japanese have us Americans beat, while we are stingy assholes, they should their children things like Cardcaptor Sakura and unedited Pokemon specials>_<Hell Mrs.Watase(who writes Fushigi Yuugi,Ceres,Imadoki,Mai,Alice19th,Zettai Karashi,ECT)said that she is writing for preteens in Japan(while we put OLDER teen on her mangas)
Therefore,Anime/manga tends to be much more mature than the shit we have here.Because the Japanese are so tolerant and open to societys differences. With all these open minded creators not worrying about censorship(besides in porn)OF COURSE WE ARE GANNA GREAT GREAT THINGS OUT OF JAPAN!Its the originallity and openness of the Japanese art/storys/culture that i'v come to respect all these years.America will never succeed like Japan and their animation not only because their art is beyond advanced but because socially, their culture is much stronger and more openly creative.

And yes,I *am*unpatriotic, now take those bitchings and shove them up your ass.

I totally agree with what has been said here. While it seems like you guys are far more hardcore fans of anime/manga than I am, I appreciate it for the same reasons you've mentioned. The way a story can draw you in and hold you there, to the point where it takes you a while after seeing/reading it to get back to reality. A really great story will do that and there are no shortage of those in the anime/manga genres. Defiantly a breath of fresh air from the mostly generic sitcoms and movies that roll out of Hollywood these days. Also as said by BlackHatDefect, Japanese entertainment in general is a lot more willing to touch on issues that western viewers may consider controversial. I'm all for appropriate censorship, but I think censors need to relax their grip in some areas. A good example is how the house of blue leaves battle scene in Kill Bill Volume 1 was made black and white for western cinema audiences. Not to mention the numerous parts of the movie removed in all but the Japanese version. The movie already had an R18+ rating, come on. erm So I'm a fan of Asian cinema in general. I also like Japanese culture, past and present. I'll defiantly go there one day. big grin

yeah, We are not freaks, we have lives, this is a hobby for some of us.. I am really big into anime but by no mean a freak. I have a wife I work in advertising, I take part in Kendo, Akido, and Tai Chi, I also go clubing with my friends and am out of the house more then i am in it.. I live a ver productive life.. The reason i am on this message board is becuase there are alot of other ppl who share the same intrest as me, and it is nice to talk to other ppl that know what your talking about.. Anime is a Hobby of mine that i really enjoy. It has nothing to do with not having a life.. And as said by another persons post, It is usually the person who comes to these boards and flames ppl that really has no life.. If you had a life why would you be wasting your time coming here just to put ppl down without having a clue to what is going on here, You obviously have nothing better to do in your spare time then to cause trouble, So it is most likely that you are the one with no life and nothing better to do, but sit at your comp looking for ppl to flame..

I like the stories of anime I am also into Japanese culture. I like anime cuz it has ideas that are fresh unlike most of American-Canandian TV. Anime doesn't seem like it wants to brainwash you like Am/CA do.

I don't know what it is about anime/manga...I've just always loved it (Dragonball/DBZ, Sailor Moon, My Neighbor Totoro, stuff like that...I used to watch all that when I was really little and ever since then, I've been into it). Like plenty of people have said, it's a way to escape from reality. And what's weird is that I've liked anime so long that I prefer anime guys over real ones. confused Pathetic, I know...laughing out loud
