After some scuffles, a time-skip and Jojo's discovery that Dio is attempting to poison their Father (to gain the family fortune) Dio goes on a booze run and brings the 'Stone Mask' with him (Hoping to use it's blood activated Spines to murder Jojo). After aggravating some street toughs he decides to 'Test' the mask.

So what have we gathered from the test ? Stone Mask Vampires are incredibly strong, Immune to pain , Drain Blood through their hands, Grow Young through Blood-sucking and die upon exposure to the sun. But there is so much more.....

Anyway, feeling cornered Dio takes his only option. That is, to 'Trascend Humanity'

After activating the Stone Mask and becoming a vampire, Dio is shot in the chest several times....

...to no effect. He then casually decapitates a police officer with a minor blow while hanging upside down with his other hand

He's strong enough to embed his fingers (up to the metacarpals) in a brick wall easily.

Regenerates from being shot in the head

Simply throwing the corpse kills and injures the remaining spectators, such is Dio's strength.

Anyone Dio drains (Living or Dead) becomes a Zombie (they also keep their Inherent abilities).

Casually takes an Iron Spear through the hand (someone finally notices Dio's regeneration) and then BREAKS said Spear while it is still impaled through his hand.

.....and were back.

Ok, so last we saw Dio had his ass handed to him, but in the glorious tradition of villainy if you didn't see the corpse he's probably still alive. And indeed he is !

Unfortunately Jojo gains a new companion (The righteous Anthony Zeppeli, whom teaches Jojo how to use 'Hamon' , a martial art that allows the user to focus sunlight throughout their bodies, thus making physical contact incredibly deadly to Vampires).

Jojo isn't the only one to make new friends though, as the weakened Dio recruits the Asian guy (Wang-Chan) and Jack the Ripper to his cause.

NOTE : I'm 90% sure all of Dio's servants are Zombies.However , it's difficult to analyze considering that beside general physical status (EG : Rotting, withered etc) and abilities , both are identical. Hell even the Mangaka gets 'em confused (referring to Dio's servants as Zombie/Vampires). Thus (until I have conclusive proof) i'm calling all of Dios servants Zombies.

Anyway, Dio buys a Mansion in a (reasonably) isolated area. He then proceeds to devour the womenfolk and turn the general populace into zombies*. He also revives two legendary knights to become something akin to 'Elite Guard'.

*Effectively a freakin' Zombie Army !

He also spends his time loafing around and being a general dick.

Jojo and Zeppeli* eventually arrive in Dios homestead after defeating a few of the Vampires more disposable minions. What they find however...is a rather healthy looking Dio.

*There is also Speedwagon, but considering he's pretty much 'Team Vampire Killers' cheerleader he doesn't really count.

Zeppeli goes in for the kill, hoping that with his Hamon powers he can OHK (One Hit Kill) Dio. Dio reveals a new ability though. Contact-Cyrokinesis. Due to Hamons nature (it works by breathing and 'energy made by blood movement') being Frozen is pretty damn bad. Dio explains his ability pretty well.

Jojo decides to step in and aid his wounded companion/teacher. Dio f*cks em' both up with his Contact-Cryokinesis .

Dio leaves them to his 'Elite Guard'. Jojo kills the first, releasing the Knights soul, said Knight awards Jojo with his Sword (Named 'Luck and Pluck') in thanks for a worthy fight. The second Knight however is too much and ends up killing Zeppeli , dying Zeppeli transfers his lifeforce and Ripple to Jojo, amping him up. The remaining two (Speedwagon and Jojo) track Dio to his Gothic Castle, only to be surprised by three strangers.

These strangers turn out to be Zeppeli's Master, Tonpeti and his disciples, Dire and Straights (later translated to Straihzo). They decide to all team-up to take down Dio before he grows too powerful.

Of course while all this is happening Dio is macking on some bitches.

Jojo and Co sneak into Dio's Castle, only for Dio to confront them within the first five minutes. Dio calls off his zombie goons, wanting to deal with Jojo himself. Trash talk ensues.
