I'm sure that Guts is not above Grunbeld, even wearing the armor. We know that Guts would have fought Grunbeld until he died as he was quickly on his way to death.

Because he was severely wounded before the second round. Grunbeld also called for back-up while they were fighting.

A single strike cracked Grunbeld's face, a few more hits and he'd fall.
