Nurture or Nature

So people what do you think affects us more nurture or nature. Would you be the same if you were born of your parents but brought up by others. We all have the chracteristics and the tendency to act like our parents but are these genetic or because they brought us up?

Nurture. 😉

Nurture is nature..

^ Is that like a tree hugging you??

Both to an unknown extent

You don't include human beings as nature?

Everything in this world act according to nature... there is no such thing that doesn't act/happen according to nature, because that is just not possible... Even artificial is part of nature('s plan)...

If Lydia were to meant something else, then I suggest that she use another word other than nature...

^ I was teasin with ya 🙄

But...what do you mean about the artificial??

Both... In this genetics textbook somebody gave me for some reason, it shows a pair of identical twins raised apart from the time they were born, and they look amazingly different.

Sorry didn't get the joke.. 😆

I mean artificial as man-made things, which some people exclude it from nature...

This question is redundant is many ways, because despite we are born to our parents, others actually raise us. We are taught by our peers, friends, environment, TV, and outside forces. Our parents are merely a go-between, a stablizer for us to take our first steps out into the world. Also, we may have our parents genetic make-up, but not all the genes are turned on, thus we are all different.

Nurture affects you first... then nature takes over

Both to a great extent.

I think I would be different if I was bought up by another famliy. If it was it was a christen family I would be more christen then a confuse non pratise jewish girl.JM

If all our traits are determined by our genes, by our environment, by chance, or by some combination of these acting together, then there seems to be little room for free will.

That's a good point...

Leaves little room for it....So, I believe you can overcome nature and nurture...It just has an influence.

In simplistic genetics terms...
Genetic potential = Genotype
Genes + Total environment (i.e. nutrition, experiences, decisions, chance occurrences... basically all external factors be they physiological, psychological whatever) = Phenotype

Failure to reach genetic potential = incomplete penetrance.

Both.

Nurture is by far the most important thing. I know a guy thats adopted. You can clearly see that he acts like his parents with a lot of things.

Nurture is important, but depending but nature is very important too... there are things that never change, and if that person has a strong will, or personality she will remain much the same.
