IM is the son of Yuga, who's lived for billions of years according to the timeline so... He'd likely have at least eons worth of combat experience himself.

yeah, you're using the most recent orion again, eh? and supes really only held the line against asmodel. he couldn't do anything to actually harm or threaten him....
Of course not. Darkside easily beat Infinity Man who was almost as powerful as Thanos before his power up. Darkside also crushed the universe in his fist and stood up to the powers of the combined legion including a guy who created a who galaxy of life. Side is on another level than these guys.

once again we're speaking of different versions of a character. you're talking about FC versions. i'm talking about the versions most commonly placed in these matches.
doesn't change the fact that IM would lose to asmodel though.
Classic IM was so powerful that even pre-crisis Superman was absolutely nothing in comparison... Nor was classic Mantis. IM also has that pesky dues ex machina ability: the infini-beam, which completely depowers anyone it touches.
It was the Grav-Guards, not the Parademons, but yeah.
The thing is, it wasn't as clear cut as all that. Yes, Infinity Man was more powerful than Superman and Orion - Orion states as much outright, and he shows it against Superman both pre and post crisis - but Superman in that same appearance (The Gravi-Guard one) proves capable of saving Beautiful Dreamer from the death mechanism that has her trapped thanks to his prodigious speed -- speed beyond even what the Infinity Man could accomplish. And Infinity Man makes it clear that, had he tapped into his true potential, Orion would be far, far more powerful than he.
I wouldn't put classic Infinity Man at Thanos level. I think he's probably somewhere in between tip top herald and Thanos, on average.
The Gravity Guard (not Parademons) were able to channel gravity waves from heavy mass galaxies, and use them offensively against their opponents (that's how they were able to easily overpower pre-crisis Supes.) But like you said, IM casually strolled over, reversed said gravity, and owned the entire Guard.
However, back then IM was still substantially below classic Darkseid, power-wise (not a low feat by any means).... But that gap may have been retconned during Superman Confidential.
